All told, I have to say I think around the league the european goalies have much more imaginative masks.
Personally I'm not sure I like masks that don't have much to do with the team.
Damian rhodes Maple leaves is the best match to the uniform and so gets my nod as the all time best leaf mask. - B-Wforever
Yes.
I don't want to see your name or your own personal logo or nickname.
Make it blend into the uniform.
To paraphrase Dr. Ian Malcolm from Jurassic Park, when goalies think about what crazy graphics they can put on their helmets, they were so preoccupied with whether or not they could that they didn't stop to think if they should. |

As bad as these two were, they sure did have some interesting masks.

I like some of the simpler ones, I wish a goalie would go back to just blue and white leaf iconography, but I doubt they will since having the mask be a detailed painting seems like an ongoing trend looking at all these masks.
I mean, all the modern masks are amazing and beautiful, but does every one now need to look like a cheesy airbrushed murale on the side of van?
Or I think some of these guys go for a crazy personalized mask too young. Belfour or Cujo could put some big nickname and mascot on their heads at that point in their careers like it's their avatar, because they're all-star celebrity players. Reimer and Monster and these guys just look kind of stupid coming out in these bad-ass masks based on their nicknames, and they haven't done anything yet. If I was an NHL rookie goalie I'd be wearing plain, team-focused masks until I'd won something, a bunch of things.
I still dig all the masks though, although seeing Toskaclown makes me ill so I don't like the mask. We got spoiled with five years of Cujo and two good years from Belfour man, that was a solid run of having all-world goaltending...dammit |

That mask made shooters ask themselves "How must I prepare for the Cat? Should I jump off the tallest building in the world? Should I lay on the lawn and be run over by lawnmowers? Should I go to Africa and be trampled by raging elephants?" |

Gustavsson for sure had the best mask. He was treated to unfairly by Wilson. Especially once Reimer came into the picture. Gonna miss ya Monster!! |

Felix's best intimidation factor wasnt just the mask. It was those eyes. That direct stare at the puck made him look possessed! :p |

What was the Monster's intimidation factor? The way he twitched before every shot? Or was it the fire he showed when he let in three or four goals? |

Clearly i said his mask was the best.. I like how he could stop red hot teams like Tampa and Washington 7-1. Gustavsson is clearly not comparable to the Cat. Hense why I didnt state anything about Gussy being intimidating. Afterall this blog asked who we thought had the best mask. |

When the monster was hot he was deadly.. Id like to see you perform at work after you had heart problems. It also doesn't help that he was mourning and had a coach who treated him like poop. His style didn't fit Allaires style. There are factors here. He will do well in Detroit. |

His mask reflected his play most nights; horrible.
You said you would miss Gustavsson. Still trying to figure out why. He was great if you wanted to tank a season. Outside of that, not much of use. |

Yes, deadly for the Leafs in the sense that he would effectively kill any chance of winning half of the time he was in net.
How long was he in mourning for? Three years?
His style was twitchy, unorganized and sporadic. I'm sure he'll do as well as Joey MacDonald did in Detroit. Firmly stapled to the bench. |

Leafs will continue to suck unless they get a #1 goaltender.. And this will be Lu.. All this negative talk will go away when Luongo gets them into the playoffs and we will all praise him. Best of luck to Gus in Detroit... Except if he plays in the winter classic... |
