LTROI is swedish i believe

It'll come as no surprise that I'd recommend the original Star Wars trilogy and Star Trek II (even for non-fans). On the burner, I've got the Rocketeer and Dark City (loaned to me by a friend). I've been meaning to watch Drive, as well.

We're dropping the Primeau thing and moving on. Jsaq and I have had this conversation too many times to keep boring this thread with more of it. He's not even on the side of the argument I disagree with. He's not the blind loyalist that makes me crazy.

Just to add my two cents. But I don't think it's a boring conversation at all. I've found it interesting. And it's breathed some life into this thread that lately due to the time of year and nothing other then the CBA going on, has been dead as a door nail.

Ghost is small for a NHL defenseman. Not a lot of Timonen's out there and Gustafsson has only shown flashes. He could still end up a Freddy Meyer.

Gostisbehere's game is one of skating and puck moving. I worry that adding too much weight could temper his strengths and make him less effective

I see Laughton as similar to what Richards was projected as when he was drafted. Most people felt that Richards was going to be a third line center who worked his ass off, scored 15-20 goals and was a great leader and who was physical and drove opponents crazy. What I have seen of Laughton shows me he is a chippy kid, a pain in the ass to play against and he stirs the pot. He also has a good skill set.

Cousins is similar. He had higher point totals, but he's along the same lines-annoying to play against, not afraid of the rough going. Cousins reminds me a bit of Downie, although not as big or prone to fighting-and he also agitates others more than losing his own cool. His skating needs work, which makes me wonder about his offensive upside & ability to be a center in the NHL

In my mind Max Talbot is a poor man's Mike Richards. Both have the ability to show up in big games leadership and are sound defensively. The only thing Talbot missing is consistent offense.

With Giroux, Schenn and Couturier all being under 24, even two years down the road I must ask where Laughton fits within the flyers plans. I really wish we had more high end defense prospects.

How do you know that? Why can't Schenn reach his potential as a Winger rather then a Center? The League is full of players who were Centers that became very good Wingers. Simon Gagne came up as a Center.

Not sure how it's a waste of what he could be. Less responsibility defensively, allow him to play with Briere or Couturier as his center, frees him up to bang in the corners and in front of the net, don;t really see much downside to using Schenn as a winger.

He could also stay at center, with Laughton and/or Cousins being used as wingers. They still have a ton of options, and given the Flyers track record of drafting forwards in the late first round, I'm not going to complain that they had Laughton rated over Olli Maatta or the other defensemen available at that spot.

The tendency is to view players just drafted through the prism of the current day lineup, but we all know that the Flyers have pretty high turnover of personnel. While it may be that they have a glut of centermen today, that depth was born mostly from the Richards/Carter trades, so the picture is liable to change drastically by the time Laughton is ready to crack the lineup.

I'd hope that Laughton could develop into a Brodziak or Chris Kelly type of player... competitive, steady and versatile, able to move up and down the lineup, shift to the wing with ease, and take the burden of tough defensive assignments off the team's top players.

The thing is, he did change, and fully embraced his new role. A lot of guys wouldn't or even couldn't do that sort of thing.

Admittedly I was captivated by the playoff run, partly because it was so unexpected and partly because it was sort of a comeback moment for him in a few different ways.

But the thing I liked best about Primeau (and what I think the team missed greatly when he left) was the attitude you describe above and in prior posts. The guy who knew he hadn't been getting it done, acknowledged his mistakes, rededicated himself to his new role, and really set a team-first example for the rest of the team.

I think that kind of thing is rare in the NHL, and in pro sports in general. And I found it pretty impressive. On the other hand, I can totally see MOAT's point of view that his entire body of work does not really justify the reverence in which many Flyer fans seem to hold Primeau. Can't really ague that based on his stats.

I would have loved for him to be able to continue his career and play at least a few more years in his new role. Had he been able to do so, I think he would have changed a few more fans opinions of him, and made the trade work out a little more evenly.
