Meh, I guess the guy is mostly there for the business side of things (ie: revenues), not to manage the teams. |

Exactly. They can put whoever at the top of the chain, the performances of the teams won't be affected by any means. |

Unless Florida can have Luongo for peanut (shells)...they have no reason to make an offer...they could use a vet guy for a year/two, but they dont need a Luongo for 10 years. Markstrom is another year removed from full duties. |

Cue the Nucks fans who somehow think this will help Gillis get an even better return for their aging vet goalie with a decade of term left on his deal.

TFC is an unmitigated disaster right now...I know of a few seasons ticket holders who are giving up their tickets next season. They better hope there isn't more widespread sentiment like this, because it's going to spell out trouble for TFC. |

I guess it's important to remember the distinction between MLSE and the Leafs, etc. However, it hasn't been uncommon for the brass at MLSE to have their hands in running the sports teams as well, which is where Peddie was strongly disliked by many. Peddie's influence in bringing in Ferguson Jr. set this franchise back many years, and I don't want to see turf wars developing between Burke and Anselmi. |

he's just stating the obvious.
gillis isn't getting his price so now they change the tactic so the panthers know lu wants to go there and in return give gillis more to get er done before another team ups the ante - therealagent
This would now give gillis less not more. |

um...they already knew he wanted to go there. He said so in an interview with TSN 2 months ago
why would Talon up his offer when it is now even more clear he is probably the only horse in the race?

he has no say in managing the teams beyond approving moves that are made. |

That's why I could see Tampa coming out of the woodwork here. From a team standpoint they actually make sense.
Theodore wants to play in Florida, and has been solid for them so far - can fill the gap till markstrom's ready. |

They definitely would have gotten way more of a return, and wouldn't have had to wait this long for prospective buyers. |

not really the point though is it. The idea is to do what's best for the team, not what's easiest. Schneider is cheaper, younger, and seemingly better than Luongo will be from here on out, and is likely still improving.
No brainer to trade Luongo. Only mistake is assuming he still has elite goalie value.

Only problem with that, would be that Vancouver fans would obviously demand Stamkos, Vasilevski, and a first |
