My favorite trade in flyers history.

As a side note with Claude Giroux on the cover of NHL13 today. I felt equally as good when Recchi was traded back to us for Zubras. On this day was the first time I played NHL99 with Eric Lindros on the cover. I even held a lockout of my own against a buddy who was a hans fan until he made this trade with me before we played. Back then on N64, we didn't have roster updates.

It's pretty sad that I can recall exactly where I was when I heard of the trades that landed Hextall, LeClair, Dionne & Recchi.

I was in Virginia at the time, and I could pick up 1060 KYW. I was driving from my apartment to the base I was on temporary duty at, and I just flipped to KYW to cope with a flash of homesickness and heard the Hextall news.

The Recchi trade, I heard at work. I guy I was stationed with was from Maple Shade, and he got a call from his brother with the news. I remember the next game they got shutout 3-0

Great blog as usual Bill.

Try and take your minds off the impending lockout with these crazy bastards going after each other. Forgot how much I always liked John Davidson as a CA.

Everyone Xbox people or what?

I been playing the demo and the Early Release since Friday night. Good game. Skating takes a bit to get used to, and the board play is a bit different.

A little off topic here but I guess it might have to do with Flyers history.
I had to hand out notices at work advertising a pancake breakfast. Now to write it in my report I had to look it up to see what was the proper spelling of what I was handing out - fliers or flyers ... I found out that either can be used, but flyers is the more common spelling. One column said that flyers is usually used to describe the hand bill/papers that are handed out and fliers is usually used to describe aviators. Now if that was true, the hockey team would be named after the pieces of paper and not the aviators! Kind of hilarious!

The name the team contest "winner" actually submitted the name Fliers, but a relative of Ed Snider said she felt that the name looked better with a y, rather than an i
