You may be right. But if those owners stick to that, why should the players cave in and pay the bill? They paid it the last time. And what happened? Were back in the same place. With the League crying poor again and saying the players are making too much of the pie. So every CBA the players should just keep taking paycuts? - MJL
The end result is that they can shout unity all the want, but they wont beat city hall, and in this case the owners are city hall, I just feel we should get to the inevitable, last time we missed a whole year, before the inevitable occurred, the inevitable being that you will not win over these guys who signs the checks, not in the long run, and the unity crap, is all about principals. |

I'm really thinking about spending the money for the OHL junior games online and forget about the NHL until a deal is done. - ob18
I can't even watch the AHL, it's like a hotdog, after having & getting used to porterhouse |

The sense is in talking and working out a deal. Bettman keeps saying that they are making concessions. But the starting point of where they are making concessions from is the ridiculous and original offer they first made to the players. Which in reality means that the League isn't compromising at all. - MJL
your correct, the owners are not making concessions what so ever, I just do not think we will ever see these billionaires crumble, not going to happen. |

The OHL and even the QMJHL are very fun to watch but I am biased I've been to a few games in each league.

I disagree that the Owners are City Hall. There won't be a Season until the League is willing to truly compromise. |

You may be right. We'll see.
And here's the hypocrisy of it all. Jacobs is one of those Billionaire Owners that you referenced previously. The Bruins just signed Lucic to a deal worth 6M a year as the teams complain that they are paying the players too much. Who signed off on that deal and agreed to write the checks?
Boston has the highest payroll in Hockey. The Flyers have the 5th highest. Is there a gun to the owners head to spend the money? |

I guess that's pretty much all we will have, for a while,
I think this CBA issue will be worse than the last one, the "our way or nothing" owners will never cave in, and the other side with the unity, brotherhood, & the "baseball killer" Fehr

1994 since then they'll had new CBA including one being done last year with no issues whatsoever getting them done. |

I know, I agree with you on that, but again, see my earlier point, Jacobs is an old school owner, like Snider, "old school", no one will tell them what to do & when to do it.
Both sides are digging in maybe more so on principals, than the money, (and who will win that war?)
If someone else comes up with a workable way, better say it was the owners idea.
also, look at the Weber situation this summer, Snider has to help pay Nashville checks to match the offer they originally made, (stealing their player?)
weird situation |

Please don't go their, baseball's money situation, salary structures, capitalistic situation, is pure crap, because the lower teams stink & still make out.
ask an old time pirates fan what he's rather have, the lumber company, or the crap of today?
The Yankees have one player that makes more than maybe all of the pirates entire team, would you like to see that in hockey?

But that system was all setup by Fehr and it works very well that they have very little to adjust other than minor tweaks. |

I couldn't support a league where one guy makes more than a whole team

Fehr has never had an issue telling owners or a commissioner what's wrong with things in a CBA or how they run things.
I've said when Fehr took the NHLPA job Gary was in for a heavyweight fight in this CBA.
Fehr has been doing this since 1976 and I think was head of the MLBPA for over 20 years and the general counsel prior to it so he won't just roll over and taking 2 years to meet with all the players and hearing them out they are 100% behind him, this could be a long fight in my eyes.

(frank) these owners! They hand out mega-million contracts and cry poor mouth, too (frank)ing bad! They're trying to break the players because they know time is against a majority of the players. Let every one of them go to europe wherever I don't care! This CBA is the epitome of what is wrong with our society and economy today! Rich (frank)ing Corporations trying to trample the rights of the working class! Proof is in the pudding THEY DON'T WANT TO TALK TODAY BECAUSE IT WOULD SERVE NO PURPOSE!!!! Their own (frank)ing words! |

Did someone hack your account?
Owning stock in many corporations, I don't want the corporations F'ed. I want less rights for management of these corps and more rights for owners, or shareholders.
Unfortunately, anyone that invests in a business is likely to expect a decent return before making others rich. Is that unfair? I won't say.
If poor teams are having trouble a) competing b) making money or c) both, they want some relief. IMO, the big market teams are saying get it from the players, and the players are saying get it from the big market teams (via revenue share).
Clearly, the balance between revenue share and salary cuts is at issue. Without seeing numbers, I refuse to opine as it would be ignorant of me to do so.
As my fans know here, I don't want to risk being ignorant. |

I view it as complicated, and crappy for fans.
It is not pure capitalism, as anti-trust applies. A lot of interesting, albeit uunfortunate, elements here. |

I'm not really sure what you're getting at, but I think it's pretty simple: In a few hours hockey will be locked out indefinitely, and there will be no meeting between the two sides leading up to this. That tells me everything I need to know.
I'll agree it's crappy for the fans. But what can you do? |
