i think we'll see some give on both sides in time to save the season but i don't know if it will be enough give. - DoubleDown
They will be back in time for the Winter Classic IMO.
Both the NHL and NHLPA need that fat TV contract. |

how are they justified? 57% of revenues is beyond ridiculous. for them to smart at a 50-50 split shows they're every bit as greedy and pigheaded as they accuse the owners of being. and please, they players absolutely chose this lockout. this is a joint venture. the players knew it was coming. they chose to do NOTHING in lead up. this is the price of their posturing.
and i think you're twisting Bettman's words. when he was crowing about the $3.3 billion revenues, he wasn't bragging about how much of it went into the owners' pockets and how much more was going into the players' pockets. if anything, crowing about increased revenue is an argument that the percentages must be balanced out. - DoubleDown
How so?
Why is 50-50 the norm?
NBA: more revenue and less players per roster, so 50-50 works
NFL: A LOT MORE revenue and more players per roster, but there's so much money that 50-50 still works...
MLB: ...I don't care...
Ok, so 50-50 works for other sports, but 57-43 worked for hockey for a while or else owners would not have agreed to it...
That said, I concede that it probably has to come down closer to 50-50, but the NHL is taking it too far by asking it reversed to 57 for them or even the 54 or whatever they revised it to is just telling us how little they are regarding this negotiation process...they are not serious about getting a fair deal.

hmm. oh well. from what i can gather, no one here cares (aside from business owners). no one talks about it. - DoubleDown
I think everyone is annoyed that this is happening...AGAIN!
But to say that fans in general wouldn't care if the season is locked out? That's just wrong. I'd say most fans want his thing resolved quickly. |

Both sides have watched too many episodes of pawn stars and think they are the pawnshop owners. |

I don't go to a lot of live habs games.
So for me, I'll invest that money in junior hockey instead. Already did that last season. Went to the Bell Center only twice and saw around 10-12 junior games instead. - Pecafan Fan
i probably go to an average of two a season. wasn't able to go at all last season. but for me i want NHL hockey. i want to watch every single Bruins game on TV.
I could give a rats ass about UNH, UMaine, BU, BC etc. maybe into major junior if it were an option for me.
i will go to Portland to see the Providence Bruins when they come to town. |

never watched pawn stars...but I think if I did, I'd agree with you.
Although, I would say the players seem more willing to talk, but probably don't because the NHL will use that as a sign of weakness and try to fleece them. |

because i just don't think the players should be getting 14% more of the revenue than the owners, who by the way, still have many other expenses to pay. the owners did agree to 54-57 yes, but that was when they were paying, what, 75? of course the danger for the players is that if they give in to 50 now, what will it be next? |

It was confusing, specially when they have a Major Junior team. |
