There is no hope for a season, as long as Gary Bettman is calling the shots, he's looking for a TKO of Don Fehr, it's all about ego, a very little about substance. RIP 2012-2013 NHL season. - OLDSCHOOL#6
Someone's going to cave, probably the owners. Last time around, the owners had nothing to lose. That's not the case this time. Everyone said the same thing about the NFL, and then the NBA. They saw what happened with the NHL and learned from it. That's never going to happen again. |

I think if talks fail, this weekend, the next set won't happen until mid November. By then, the whole season will be in jeopardy. It's really an insane situation, with two lemmings both headed for the same cliff. The U.S. economy is teetering right now and if another recession happens, revenues will take a tumble. It's not a good time for this to be happening.
I hope they do discuss some relocation of a hand full of franchises, so the Revenue Sharing aspect of the game is diminished. At least a couple of teams need to be moved, before the start of next season. Quebec City and Seattle should be considered as target area's, where there'll be profits being made and not loses. Saving that, once they settle on the relocation of two teams, there should also be consideration of contraction, if teams can't make a go of it, after that. - PrinceLH
I think this whole thing should go to a shootout. Bettman vs. Fehr.
Winner takes it all! |

You lost me at "afraid"! WTH are you talking about? Both sides are afraid to make the next move??!! What a crock, both sides are bull headed and unwilling to budge plain and simple. The only thing either side is "afraid" of is the thought of having to concede any aspect of the negotiations to the other...
Instead of pumping out your tired old opinion blogs every other hour, maybe wait until you have something a little more concrete to pass along to the NHL fans of this forum instead of regurgitating bits and pieces of each entry combined with the "Ek's guide to horse sensibility" philisophy. |

The players biggest fear is the NHL is simply negotiating like they did last time with their only intention being to break them. Players have told me this over and over again. And from where they sit it is a very legitimate fear. The NHL hasn't done themselves any favors in the way they've handled the player's fears. The NHL hasn't given the players any real reasons to think things are different than they were in 2004. - Eklund
Not sure I follow your logic here, Ek.
The NHL wants to have the players scared poopless that they are willing to forgo an entire season.
It puts them in a stronger bargaining position. |

They'll be playng by December
There are no structural issues in these negotiations (introduction of CAP). The only real issue is $ (player/owner split). Both sides can do the math and know when they get to the point where they lose more by staying out than they could possibly win and will try to get best possible deal by that point. The players may push a little harder because they don't want to make it too easy for owners to grab a few % points each CBA.
Once that is sorted out, they have contract issues (how to protect owners from themselves and how to split $ among players) and technical issues. |
