Was just reported on KFAN in Mpls that the NHL has announced the cancelation of the rest of the 2012-2013 pre season... - MnGump
Why would we hear about it on HOCKEYBUZZ.com??
I saw it on 5 diffent sites and had several people text me telling me about the cancelations but NOT ON HOCKEYBUZZ
Wait The refs being locked out in the NFL was on here before anyone else knew |

i think even sooner. - Fountain-San
I'm with ya.
Having the players as 'partners' basically limits the length of any strike/lockout. Both parties are now on the same side of wanting (NEEDING) to grow the game to get more money.
If a full year gets cancelled, both sides realize that overall revenues will take a hit.
Obviously, the players would rather 50% of 3.3B, than 57% of 2.5B.
I think both sides know (or at least SHOULD know) that cancelling another year is going to be disasterous. Fans came back last time cause they knew the league needed to change. This time, fans won't be so forgiving and I think both the players and the owners know it.
I say we'll be watching hockey as soon as the MLB playoffs are over. |

Sponsors are already pissed and many will walk away if they lose a year. NBC braodcasts start in late November and the League needs "Brian Burke 24/7" on HBO |

Entire pre-season now cancelled.
What was that about hope, Ek? - Atomic Wedgie
well in fairness, there needs to be a 2 week training camp for the players before the season could start. Being that opening night is well 2 weeks away, it kind of makes sense to cancel these pre season games.
This weekend (3 scheduled days of negotiations fri sat sun) will dictate if we see hockey before US Thanksgiving.

Damn it anyhow!!! Ek told ALL the other media outlets to keep this quiet until he could find a clever way to work it into his next hope and change, but no progress montage... wait a tic... "hope", "change", "no progress"... that sounds eerily familiar for some reason... Do you think Ek is really Obama??? |

Here's what TSN says will go down this weekend:
As part of their decision to resume negotiations, the sides agreed to revisit the secondary issues that will have to be ironed out in the new CBA. Those include, but aren't limited to, grievance procedures, travel, medical care, and pensions and benefits.
Let's hope that they can get the important issues like who pays for the $12 can of peanuts from the minibar on road trips - NHL or players?
Once that's out of the way, all they need to settle is a billion dollar gap.
See you in December, boys. |

NBC broadcasts one game in 2012 - on Black Friday. And then nothing until the Winter Classic.
It's not a factor. |

once they both start to negotiate on "less" important issues and practice that give and take approach that negotiations should include, i expect it will make it easier to address the bigger billion dollar elephant....... |

Technically speaking, he's not locked out.
He just can't fit through the doors of the arena. |
