Bill,
Can we get other HB bloggers to do the same 'vote for ultimate team' process and play them against one another? There are many simulation sites that would allow us to pit this Flyers squad that we picked against other teams' best players.
Just a thought,
NeedsHockeySomehow - mrmagoo532
That's exactly what we are doing! Will have a simulated season of all of the all-time teams. |

Thanks so much for putting on this vote.. Lots of fun debating. I was too young to watch Macleish, therefore I couldn't vote for him, but having said that..I have a respect for Flyers history. I think Giroux is well on his way to being one of the greater Flyers of all time.. If by some miracle, he brings a cup here during his time, he's going to be up there.
Props to my man Hexy. That's one hell of a tending tandem. |

Im only 25 but to see preamu, gagne, and especially Colburn on this team is kind of painful.
I wish I could have seen the look on bill's face when he read the votes for the reserve players lol |

you dont think primeau or gagne don't merit a spot? That's asanine to think they shouldn't be considered. Coburn I can understand, you need to obtain a copy of the 10 best flyers game and go watch some of these older guys or go watch some youtube. |

Watched the peetes-generals game last night....on the Rogers OHL package that you can get up here.....Laughton was very solid....funny I think of Richards when I watch him...awesome on face-offs ....sullentrop (sp) was very good.....great mobility on the back end......Mathers is big and is actually an asst. Cpt....as is Laughton......he's big, avg skater, who was involved in a scrap...missed it....Derian Hatchers kid lost a third period fight....Chase played up front and also had an altercation with Sullentrop late in the 3rd......Laughtons winger is Leafs prospect...I believe an American....named Tyler Biggs....big kid with an edge.... |

Ive got no problem with Gagne. Primeau was real surprising I thought. except for a great playoff run he was murdered in this town for a few years |

And...Coburn in? Dailey out?
Kids
It would be interesting if you could poll only those who actually saw games from the 70's and see the difference in selections. |

There was a few guys Coburn should have been behind....pretty sure some guys that voted never saw the 70's version of the Flyers....fair enough I guess.... |

I really liked Primeau. The 04 run was so magical, that I really had to vote for him. The fact that I am generally surrounded by Leafs fans here, and that Roenick, Primeau et al beat them out and they haven't played a playoff game since is gold when arguing with blind Leafs supporters. |

Has anyone read Lavy's article on the Flyers site about his wife?
I'm only a paragraph in and dying over here.
"My description of the evening, and the distinguished honorees, appears to be a bazooka gun aimed at dismantling a perfectly good marriage. Fear not Philly, I’m safe."

Everyone is entitled to their opinions. Being real, it is much easier to overrate the 1970s athlete than the modern athlete.
If an inferior athlete plays well against inferior competition, does that make them better than a modern player?
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, except Daman that is. Regardless, the important thing is to respect others thoughts, exchange good dialogue, and have some fun.
And a big thanks to Bill for the fun exercise.
Cheers! |

Bill Meltzer: Meltzer's Musings: Phantoms Camp, Game Action, Your All-Time Flyers Roster - bmeltzer
Great lineup, but at the end it will be hard to beat Montreal, Boston, Detroit or Edmonton.
Montreal
Goal: Plante and Dryden, sorry P. Roy
D: Harvey, Laperriere, Robinson, Savard, Lapointe, Tremblay
C: Beliveau, H. Richard, Lemaire, Toe Blake
W: R. Richard, Geoffrion, Lafleur, Shutt, F. Mahovolich, Elmer Lach, Gainey, Naslund
Boston
Goal: Frank Mr. Zero Brimsek and Tim Thomas
D: Orr, Bourque, Eddie Shore, Chara, Brad Park, with those top 5 they don't even need a sixth!
C; Milt Schmidt, P. Esposito, Jean Ratelle, Oates
W: John Bucyk, Cashman, Hodge, O"Reilly, Neely, Woody Dumart, Middleton, Lucic
Edmonton
Goal: Fuhr and Moog
D: Coffey, Lowe, Huddy, Pronger, Gregg, and Smith
C: Gretsky, Messier, Mactavish and Doug Weight
W: Kurri, Anderson, Tikanen, Nilsson, Ryan Smyth, Craig Simpson, Horcoff & Krushelinsky
Detroit
Goal; Sawchuk & Hasek
D: Red Kelly, Lidstrom, Coffey, Fetisov, L. Murphy, Pronovost
C: Abel, Yzerman, Delvecchio, and Federov
W: Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Howe, Lindsay, Brett Hull, Norm Ullman, Shanahan, Franzen
The Flyers might have a shot at Detroit and Edmonton, but Montreal is ridiculously deep at EVERY position and Boston's top 3 on D, Orr, Shore and Bourque are UNREAL!
