Even look at Montreal's goaltending options. You'd have a HHOF'er as your third string goalie.. hahah
- Hextall271

The depth of Montreal and to a slightly lesser extent, Boston and Montreal is ridiculous. Patrick Roy as a 3rd string goalie, Sergei Federov not even being one of Detroit's top 4 centers (have to go with Abel, Delvecchio, Yzerman and Datsyuk), and of course Boston's top 4 on D; no other team can match up with that kind of depth.

I'm kind of saying the same thing over and over, but do you think Lindros in his prime would be scared of "elite orginal six" d-men, or do you think he would turn those 6' 190lb "giants" into a bunch of accordions?

There is always talk on here about "have you seen the old-timers play?". Have you (plural) seen Lindros play? He destroyed people.

I doubt Pronger would be too scared either.

BTW - after all the verbal jousting - the lines look pretty good. Good job Bill / readers.

The difference would be in the style of play. Lindros could certainly flatten a guy like Eddie Shore or Ted Lindsay, however in their era they would have most likely responded by breaking their stick over Big E's head (especially Shore who was as nasty a player to ever lace up a pair of skates) so expect a few concussions in return for the flattenings!

Good to read HB every day to keep Hockey alive and well. Great all time/fantasy line-up.

One question about the line-up: what salaries are we paying these folks and what is the fantasy salary CAP???? I presume that Bernie made like 50 grand back in the day . . . . .

And if it was as simple as the bigger stronger player dominating the smaller defenseman. How is the Red Wings handling of the Legion of Doom in the Cup Finals with a 6'0 190 lb Nik Lidstrom explained? The bottom line is that a HOF defenseman is a HOF defenseman. Regardless of size or in what era they played in.

I still can't believe Recchi is on this team
- JoeRussomanno

Recchi!?!?!?

How did we end up with Keith Primeau as our 13th forward?

I disagree, my Mtl rotation would be, Roy-Dryden-Plante. Roy, IMO, is the best goalie of all time. Plante, given his iconic staus, played in an era where the talent was concentrated and the equipment and speed of the game were not on the same level as the latter. Roy proved his greatness during, IMO, the best era of the NHL. He would get my nod ad the #1.

In my opinion, such a comment is a ridiculous fiction. It doesn't account for so many factors. It puts to shame the evolution of man. It doesn't account for increase of international competition. It doesn't account for the population difference between 1920 and 2010. Making a comment that the guy from 1920's could blanket Lindros is too far fetched for me to argue.

I must excuse myself from this debate now. And I must go take some tylenol.
And BTW - I wouldn't let that "HOF" dude in the picture carry my groceries across the street.

But have a great day - we are all in this together.

Cheers!

I would love to see a PP unit of:

LeClair-Lindros-Kerr
Pronger Desjardins

hahah

I dont discount the athletic ability of guys from different eras. Put them in a more more moderen era with the same training, equipment, training norms of that era's peers, they may very well be as good or even better than their established performance dictates.

I dont believe the moderen athelete is automatically better because they are bigger et al

I'd have to go back to the 1920's. Wasn't it Harry Lumley (I believe) for Boston that had like 20 shutouts in a year on a 40 game sched.. mostly because you couldn't pass the puck forward but only backward like rugby and you weren't allowed to lift it off the ice? I'm testing my memory here and will confirm..

I agree..at a certain point, you can't compare todays players to those pre modern era.

Edit: it was George Hainsworth.. 22 shutouts in 44 games.. hahaha

Don't disagree, but wasn't Kerr more deadly from the slot and 10 - 15 out and LeClair was more in front of the net?

I know you added a skill component to give each line balance, but as a curveball, that line would be a sight to behold

If you turn that around you'd be correct. Kerr stood directly in front of the net and has the shoulder surgeries to prove it.

For all of the issues that have plagued the Flyers D this summer. I have to say a starting 6 of Bourdon, Gus, Manning, Syvert, Lauridson, and Kessel seems a pretty good AHL Blueline.

Dorney (knees), Kerr (shoulder), and Leclair (back) all paid for and played one of my favorite styles of hockey: Skate to crease, put it in "Park," throw on the emergency brake, score.
