Dorney (knees), Kerr (shoulder), and Leclair (back) all paid for and played one of my favorite styles of hockey: Skate to crease, put it in "Park," throw on the emergency brake, score.

Only one of those guys on the current roster although Simmonds could turn into that. It's a valuable asset. |

If you turn that around you'd be correct. Kerr stood directly in front of the net and has the shoulder surgeries to prove it. - mayorofangrytown
Guess I'm more delusional than people here think I am - I seem to have memories of Kerr ripping tons of shots in from the point.
Edit - not point, meant slot |

I think Simmonds is only a slightly above average player, but I think he is very good in front of the net and will only get better.

Kerr had a great snap shot and scored from all over the zone but the bulk of his goals came standing in front of the goalie just outside the crease.

Leclair scored a lot of his goals trailing the rush. |

I disagree on Simmonds. I believe what he brings in toughness (both fighting and along the boards) as well as being aroung a 30 goal/50 pt guy classifies him as above average. He had 11 pp goals and did some good work i front of the net this year as well.. I also think he'll continue to improve as he's only 24. |

INJURY UPDATE: Andrej Meszaros' reportedly feeling well enough to shop at my local Whole Foods. Was overheard talking with some short guy about pizza, wearing a walking boot. A brief conversation ensued before checkout. More to come. |

No question about it. Simmonds is a strong player in board battles, which is an extremely important part of the game. |

You know he was great for the Phantoms when they won the Calder and then was practically handed a Flyers roster spot. That season with the Flyers, he completely got away from everything that got him promoted to the NHL level. Because he also scored a bit he thought he needed to prove he could do it with the Flyers when what they really wanted was an antagonist. |

Is Lava now projecting Schenn as the surefire 2nd line winger for the flyers? Is this why he is going to be playing wing. Can't help but think of Dustin Brown when I think of Schenn and his career path. I believe Brown was a young center that developed into a PF. |

This lockout is very depressing from a fans point of view. |

If he turns into a Dustin Brown type player id be estatic. |

Maybe because the Flyers are stacked at Center with Giroux, Briere, and Couturier. Makes sense to me to have Schenn spend sometime on the Wing in the AHL.

Same here. But I feel that Schenn has a much higher potential then a Dustin Brown type. I feel he has a higher offensive output potential point wise.

Kind of think the same. Little less agitator style with more scoring. |

I think trying to quantify a player like Simmonds as 'slightly above average' doesn't do him justice (no offense intended, Dayman). He's not a top name in the game, to be sure, but there are some well needed aspects to his game, aspects any team would want. |

Totally agree.. he grit he shows on the boards is a key and underratged aspect. When he's placed in the front of the net on the PP, he's shown the ability to score. Also, in an era when the enforcer is going the way of the dodo.. he can drop the mits and do well. I was amazed last year when he got here how he brings it for a relatively skinny guy. There were a few fights he totally dominated even though he's not a heavyweight. |

Ilya Bryzgalov was the 3rd goalie (i.e., healthy scratch) for CSKA Moscow for the second straight game today. Even with the opponent being Evgeni Malkin's Metallurg Magnitogorsk club, that wasn't a huge surprise. Rastislav Stana had posted back-to-back shutouts, so he's the hot goalie right now.
At any rate, with the game tied 1-1 early in the 3rd period today, Stana got injured and Ilya Proskuryakov had to come in to finish the game. CSKA won via shootout, 2-1.
It sounds like Bryzgalov will be starting the next game. |

Apparently he's the best goalie in Coyotes history. I'm sure he'll do better. |

Not a flaw in that lineup |
