Five days to be exact. And, yes, all it cost was a low-end draft pick that originally belonged to Toronto -- incidentally, the player selected with the pick (Finnish center Juha Ylönen) eventually did play briefly in the NHL.

When the time out was announced I heard a plaintive cry from the guys across the courtyard. At that point I turned off the television. Then I heard them freaking out, so I turned it back on and rewound to see the second miss.

SC Bern was allegedly trying to recruit Giroux and Briere together. But Giroux has taken awhile to make a decision and Briere is reluctant to go for family reasons, so they signed Tavares instead.
