Dear Season Ticket Holder,

As we approach a new month, we wanted to contact all accounts currently enrolled in the payment plan regarding our payment policy during the work stoppage.

Please note, the payment plan will be suspended until a new Collective Bargaining Agreement is finalized. However, once an agreement is reached, the Pittsburgh Penguins reserve the right to take the next scheduled payment on the next business day following the agreement.

If the CBA is finalized later than the 22nd of any month, the Pittsburgh Penguins Box Office will delay payment until the first business day of the next month. If a monthly installment is missed and/or the total games in your package are reduced, your payments will be adjusted accordingly and spread evenly over the remaining months of the payment plan period (through January 2, 2013).

Again, since payments are charged automatically to the credit card on file, we encourage you to maintain updated records with us.

Likewise, you can continue to make payments independent of the payment plan through Account Manager. Simply visit pittsburghpenguins.com/myaccount and select ‘pay now.’ We also encourage you to leave previous payments on your season ticket account. If games are cancelled, these funds will be applied to future games, lowering all remaining payments.

Should you have questions regarding this policy, or your season ticket package, please contact the Penguins Ticketing Department at 412.642.PENS or the Customer Service Department at 412.642.1842.

As always, thank you for your support! We appreciate your patience as we await the season to begin!

Sincerely,
Pittsburgh Penguins Ticketing Department

Am I to conclude from this that you haven't already paid in full for the 2012-13 season?

If my assumption is correct, I don't have a heck of a lot of sympathy for you.

I was required to pay in full by mid-August - and those payments had to start in April.

Hey, if we NHL hockey fans stick together, we could see if the NHL can spell CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT! We could get a law firm, say Schlock & Schlock, and they could do commercials."If you have ever had emotional turmoil or stress from the NHL season being cancelled, if you have money that is tied up without receiving anything for it, contact Schlock & Schlock who is establishing a class action suit against the NHL and NHLPA for inhumane treatment of their most precious asset. I am a Lightning STH. To be honest I have been pleased with my options regarding any money paid for games lost...and yes I have options not just the old "it will be applied to playoff games" as in the past.

Option 1- 10% APR interest in account credit that can be applied to food, beverages, or mdse

Option 2- 5% APR interest in account credit for future tickets

Option 3- Refund of ticket $ plus 1% APR interest

All in all I am pleased with my options and my treatment from the Bolts organization. That being said...Fire Bettman so we can have hockey

I have a partial plan for the Islanders. When I called the rep told me that if a game is cancelled I can either ask for a refund, for the game(s) affected, or leave that portion of the cost with the Islanders and get 6% interest on it. The rep was not very clear on specifics, such as if the interest starts when the game is cancelled or after the date the game should have been played. I don't think he understood when I asked him about compounding the interest.

Most teams have payment plans now. Probably you had to start paying in April because they knew you'd have no playoff payments to make.

Flyers fans began paying (except for a small deposit) in June on 2 payment, 7 payment, or 9 payment plans. They have the technology to inactivate tickets now, so they don't feel the need to get all the money up front. If you miss a payment, they deactivate your ticket and can resell to someone else. You'd think the long-waitlist Leafs would do something similar.

I'd say the Pens is the least flexible, fan friendly. And I thought Philly was bad for offering 2% when most of the others we've seen were 5%. If you take the annualized Preds number and make it monthly, though, it's lower than the Flyers. But the Pens offer nothing.

Um, excuse me, but we're still benefiting from the luxurious benefits of our season tickets. The NHL may be locked out, but Hockeybuzz season is still geared up to go!

Don't get me wrong, I really appreciate your condescending tone, but as to the highlighted text above, I have one question:

Why would they?

Nitpick: it's like paying $40,000 for a car with an original delivery date of October 11, then being told "there's been an unexpected delay, we have no idea when your car will be here." In that case, you have the right to demand a refund - but if the car later shows up, you don't get first dibs on buying it; you have to hope you're first or else wait your turn in line and get whatever car is next available.

Translating back to your analogy: sure, you can demand your money back - but you forfeit your place in the season ticket line once you do it.

That said, when teams are offering 4-5% credits - or even if they're only offering a "paltry 3%" that's still a hell of a lot better than you're going to get by taking the money out and putting it into the bank. Go check 1-year CD rates, no one is paying anything near that kind of return. If you need the money, yes - get it back. If you don't need the money, leave it alone and let the team pay you for it.

The Predators letter should have read like this:

We can't afford Shea Weber when we are playing hockey. What makes you think we're going to give you any money back when we aren't playing hockey?

Bruins are actually doing refund checks as well as giving a 1% credit on account.

Or you keep it in the account and get 3%.

We took the money back.

No, because you are probably like me, broke, with money all tied up in unusable hockey tickets!!!! We need a law firm that will take it on contingency!

I was a season ticket holder last season, but did not renew knowing all of the CBA issues. Not sure why anyone would renew not knowing if there would be hockey or not, but that is just me. Last season was the first time I was a season ticket holder and it will be my last. Only going to go to a few select games in the future. Tired of this league taking fans money and not treating them properly.
- Gord_Wilson_2.0

We have no choice in Winnipeg.....If we try to make a stand by saying we won't renew, there's a 8000 person waiting list begging for the seat. Once you give up your seat it could be a decade before you get a chance at one back.

The Blackhawks have given us the option of either a full refund plus 2% interest for each canceled game. Or apply the refund plus 2% interest to future tickets i.e. playoffs

I think this is where I am headed in terms of renewing season tickets in the future the year of an expiring CBA. This is the second time I'll sit through a lockout having paid in full. If I don't like the options being given to me or I don't like the fact that I'm getting nothing for my money, it's my own fault if I let it happen again.

That sounds right!! Of course, when the lawyers take their 90% cut, each fan will get $50 each, the new price of one beer for the 2013-2014 season! They have to get their money back somehow.

If you decided not to renew and lost your chance to be a season ticket holder because of the high demand in Winnipeg, how likely would you be to go back to being a season ticket holder if you had a chance down the road?

As a ticket holder I think they've done what they can here. I have the option for a refund and get 2% which is more than a short term CD would pay. What bothers me most was talking to a bartender at the United Center last week during a concert and he said if the lockout goes the whole season, he will lose about $30K income he depends on and has 2 kids in college. I don't really care about the owners OR the players for that matter right now. It's the working class employees of the teams who are going to suffer the most during the lockout. Just my 2 cents...
