I've seen people in their late 20's, 30's, 40's and even 70 year olds there. - SeinfeldvNewman
in one of my classes in university there was this old guy named Ron. I had a group project and we were assigned to the same group. he was basically retired and just taking course for the hell of it but he had graduated initially from Sir George Williams University before it was amalgamated into Concordia.
my student number was 2316895, his was something like 3. |

It is. Some idiots spend 7 years there thinking their DEC in Social Science will lead them to a great job. |

Cegep was great, it was 2 1/2 years of doing nothing while telling people I'm doing something. - SeinfeldvNewman
Worked harder during cegep than in University. Seriously, that translation degree may be the best homework-studying/future income ratio of all the programs. It's a joke. |

then why not grade 12 and a freshman year of uni? - basementfloor
so an extra year of hand holding followed by an expensive kick in the face when they suddenly gain independence? if you compare second years at Mcgill/conncordia who come from ontario with first years who went through cegep (so same age and educational level) the cegep grads are almost always more mature. |

I can't say as I've ever noticed any tangible difference between students from other provinces who don't have a very costly, completely separate school system to administer nor do I consider high school to be hand-holding.
if you get to a sixth grade of high school and are still unable to a function independently you will get a kick regardless of whether it's in CEGEP or university.
It's like anything else, it's what you make of it but the low cost and low perceivable gain from cegep is what contributes to turning many of them into medium term parking lots for students who could benefit from the university environment. |
