Interesting.. on the surface without rollbacks and with the NHL saying that the current definition of HRR will be maintained, it looks like a deal the players should take. - Hextall271
If the Flyers have spent to the cap and the cap goes down 15 million and they are not rolling salaries back how do they reduce the salary to meet the cap? ESCROW!!! So they'll withhold a larger percentage of players salaries then keep it. No matter what you call it, it's a pay cut for the players. On paper it looks like Hartnell's getting 4 million this season but he's only getting paid 3.5. That's a rollback. |

They're (the media) saying it might hinge on how they get them to 50%. The players already despise the escrow. If that's how they're doing it not including rollbacks is just a smoke screen. - mayorofangrytown
See this is what I have been hoping for since the lockout begain. Split this pie in half. Of course no reason to get excited until Fehr speaks. Is this not the middle ground and a step in the right direction, should this be true? |

Yeah, the info coming back is that it's through escrow, that ELD's are 4 years, and Free agency at 28yrs. Arbitration the same. Fehr is going to get back to them tonight or tomorrow as it's a long doc.
Edit: TSN is reporting that Fehr called it an excellent start and that he and the players would discusss at 5 pm tonight... Maybe I shouldn't be optimistic, but that all sounds good to me. Even if it takes a counter, and then some tweaks, get the guys back here, prep for the season and play. |

Andy Reid needs to be fired. Seriously he fires the defense coach when it's the offense that stinks? I mean the special teams D is bad but come on! |

Start cheering for the Bears like I do.
Also, you might not have to worry about it much longer if Hockey's back on!
PS; I got a Simmonds jersey in the offseason... I been dying to wear it while watchin a game! |

I think we should all be excited whether both sides agree or not. This is still pretty big news. Thursday of last week I was being talked down to for not being informed but I'm also not in the room. I only have the radio as a source of information and so far they haven't stirred me wrong. This offer sounds like a real game changer. Clearly we have to have to be in the room to be sure what is going on and now they finally.have to sit and hammer out some details. |

Yes, this is the middle ground as set by the owners. This is half way between what they were paying the players and their ridiculous first low ball offer.
Look, I'm on the players side here. I'm a worker bee. I don't care what the players make or how much more they're paid than me. I realize the length of their careers and the risks they are putting their health through. If I was them I'd be pissed that I'm taking it in the nads again and that everyone thinks I'm getting a good deal when all I've done is give back on all fronts. |

Yes but hockey is a business and apparently some owners are losing money just trying to compete. Who knows I just want to see the Flyers play again and smack everyone around! |

To be clear on your last statement.. you want to see the FLyers play and for the Flyers to smack everyone around..or for you to smack everyone around? U don't need a CBA for the second option...LOL |

Maybe those owners are in the wrong business. The guy in Nashville was crying poor in the last CBA so what did he do? He sold his share in the team and bought the Wild and signed two players this off season to 100+ million contracts. Oh woe is the owners lot in life.
Those blue collar raised young men should stop taking advantage of the poor owners and let them keep their hard earned money. They are taking all the risks after all, ask Lindros, Pronger, Primeau, Laperriere, etc. |

Well let me apologize to those who were offended by my ridiculous production last Thursday that if these two side actually sat and talked, they could have things done in two days. It took five days in stead. I was way off. |

I think the negative repercussions of the focus group are entirely fabricated. It's a non-thing. |

i didnt see to many people happy with it here or on the deadspin site. in fact there was overall resntment towards the owner. By no means it was surpirsing that the nhl did this, but you "bett" that this was emberassing that it got out. |

Yeah, agree, but no one wants to feel manipulated and even though it happens every hour of every day when someone is snagged prepping a way to garner influence without using facts but slogans researched and paid for there's going to be negative blow back if only in perception.
I'm sure there were some curse words and banged fists when that hit. In my eyes it makes them look cheesy and not in a delicious orange finger kinda way. |

I can't confirm or deny everything that has gone on to this point during negotiation, except for what I have heard on the radio. It is a fact that two or three weeks ago that the nhl cancelled the first two weeks of the season. It is a fact that it was being reported that they were going to cancel more today if there wasn't any progress today. Guess what? No games were cancelled and interesting news has come out. These are all the facts I need. Something is cooking and it didn't take long to reach this middle ground. |

NHL was snagged testing some PR slogans and what not to a test group in DC using some GOP leaning firm to "Dial Test" the usefulness of the campaign.
