In other words - Don't believe what the Commish is telling all of us publicly....

Ultimately here is what it comes down to...

Fehr and the players Union see that the NHL is making money - more so then they were making in their past negotiations.

They believe (in the last negotiations) they gave up far more than what they should have.

In this negotiation they feel like the NHL is again trying to get the significantly better end of the deal.

They aren't budging....

I want to see the NHLPA's offers get released to the public to see who is telling the truth.

They did figure out 4 different ways to write 57 apparently

Trust me Donald Fehr is the King of putting his mug in front of the public. He will certainly talk about what the players proposed in the near future.

The NHLPA's offers were "a step back", "nothing there", "disappointing", but Ek is now more optimistic than ever.

The NHL is brilliant by putting out the offer yesterday they got everyone's hope up. The PA loses because, one they haven't tabled an offer forever other than today. As well, they now look like the bad guys for not being at the 50/50.

In the end, the players are going to lose money regardless. There are about 10 or so teams that would love hockey back now because of the amount of money they make. But again, if they hold out for a sweet deal, they will be able to print their own money.

So really the players are really holding out for about 10% of the players who would really benefit in the end.

There isn't an agent or a businessman who negotiates ANYTHING based upon a possible other scenario. You always negotiate based upon the facts/current agreements.

From a player standpoint yes...
From an Owners perspective it's more like:
I built this place and did all the landscaping with my own money. I'll pay you 57% of the revenues from weddings and other events if you maintain the grass. Deal?
Later on... People are taking photos of my beautiful place and paying me for the photos... and we are booked through 2017... I am now making more and more from the location... but I took all the risk building this place. You will still get paid how youhae been the last little while, but now I need to recoup my risk in the whole development. After some years you will also see it raise as the place continues to grow. Unless I can free up cash though... I can't continue to grow this place.
