The day the owners decided to pay them - Lahey
Wasn't it the WHA that caused the owners to start paying them millions?
1 million for the Golden Jet to be exact. |

Players are idiots if they think they should get more than %50. They shouldn't even be getting that much. The NBA and NFL are at %50 and they are far more successful leagues. In what world does a company with less revenue and comparable expenses give it's employees a greater percentage?!?!
Edit: Players were always idiots, it's just becoming more glaringly obvious. |

That didn't last that long though, how long did it take Gretzky to make a million a year? |

Whatever, if you are so concerned go watch the kids in your back alley play road hockey and see just how great the product is. - Lahey
the vast majority dont care. we just want a team to root for. heres my proof. the NHL back in the 40's wasnt nearly as good as it is today. put sidney crosby in a time machine and put him in the 40's. the guy will score 800 goals. yet people went to games by the thousands. |

When the NHL bought the WHA?
Just saying there was a breaking point that opened the flood gates, and it was Hull making the jump. |

Thing is.. it's not just about 50%.
It's about respecting contracts and their attached value $$$$ |

Crosby's brain would be pouring out his ears if he played in the 40's. |

embarrassed? no, they gave up 4 FG's and 2 TD's. the offense just sucked. - BallardHitsHard22
Smith has alot to prove... But either way you cut it... He is an above average QB... Which is why everyone including myself gets pissed when he chokes in the big games... |

That part I can somewhat sympathize with the players on, but from what is being said so far the PA wasn't coming down to %50 on the revenue sharing. |

NHL has come out and said the proposals today, not close and a step backwards.. So why the optimism still high? It's the difference between what is said publicly and what's not. Public statements during these negotiations are meant to be heard. Part of the game.
The sides have work to do.. We knew this..
Remember this is a negotiation that can go down to the 11th hour and likely will. It's not philosophical. it's not a salary cap. It's a dollar figure..
Also as I reported in my last blog there appears to be confirmation that all 4 counter proposals step down in increments...towards the 50% target.
Hey Ek, you think it's a negotiation right now? Do you really think ownership is going to give more than 50%??? Why would they?
In what industry do the indians make more than the chiefs?
This is a stalemate, and there will be zero hockey this year.
And I hope they ALL suffer from it.

There are numerous leagues across North America, why does it have to be a NHL team? |

its just an analogy. do you understand the overall idea i was trying to get across? that people watched hockey even when players were not super awesome. |

Yeah and some of those contracts are 10+ years....albeit the managers signed those players with the owners knowledge but still... (frank) the players contract could last 2+ CBAs before it would be brought down with that strategy... |

it doesnt have to be the NHL. the NHL is the best televised league. if somehow (i know antitrust laws prohibit it) they brought in the AHL as the NHL everyone would follow it. the players are all somewhat at the same level and it would be a slight drop off but it wouldnt matter because the players are all around the same level. |

Gary Bettman is not going to pay the players insane amounts of money, the players will have to start accepting that soon. They will have to be playing in EUROPE or not playing hockey at all if they don't.They aren't going to be making NFL/NBA money unless they are as good as Wayne Gretzky. |

shame on the nhl players today, the fact they will not take a 50/50 split is a disgrace.the harm these greedy bastards are doing to the everyday joe who relies on a paycheck, people who work for these teams and businesses that rely on game days, places like restaurants, hotels bars etc.even the refs what are they doing now?at the end of the day the players work for the owners, you dont like the salary they are giving you then go somewhere else and play its that simple.i for one would totally except replacement players,as long as everyone is on the same playing field it would be entertaining.i bet the replacement goalie the flyers get would be better then bryz.i bet it would take less then a week for these nhlers to cross the picket line if this was the case.guys like briere, kimmo, the older guys dont want to finish their career in europe.sorry memebers of the nhlpa instead of making 5 million you might have to make 4 million instead boo hoo my heart bleeds for you. |

Players are gready pigs!
The things we've read are all good for the game of hockey to create a equal playing field.
1. Not allowing teams to burry contracts
2. Not allowing contracts passed 5 years
3. Not allowing front loaded contracts
4. Extending the years before a player is able to be a UFA or RFA
All good for the game.....Players are thinking about lining their pockets.
A 50 / 50 split is more then reasonable, where in life do the workers make more money then the owners.
NO WHERE that where!
I hope the season is lost!
I hope fans don't return to the scene of the crime in what's called hockey.
This game is broken and, ho can the avg. family afford to take their family to a game whenplayers are demanding so much. Owners a forced to raise ticket and concessionp rices because the players a re greedy. Owners are not saints in all this as they just want to line their pockets as well but inthis current situation I blame the players for not wanting to make the game better for the fans, economy is another story!
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO to hockey everywhere and I hope it hits Owners and Players where it hurts them the most...their pocket books!
losers! |

Almost everyone seems to realize that except the players. Doesn't help they have a combined IQ the size of a peanut's. |

I say give the players %80 and let them cover all the teams expenses. Would give them a hell of a wake up call. |

I say you whip every owner who's GM makes a call to a UFA on July 1st. Come July 2nd most will be so sore that the market will be the poops thus driving the UFA prices down. |

Yes embarrassed. An elite team got completely dominated at every facet of the game. By the same team who finished there season last year.
There Two biggest assets-the D and the running game- were completely overwhelmed and shut down.
Eli made big play after big throw.
Smith 3 picks!! He hadnt done that ever.
I haven heard one pundit or player say that was anything less than beatdown. |
