Also if you have a long day and are ordering in try City Pizza. They have well above average Philly fare and deliver just about everywhere. Very good pizza. Better than room service if you're just baked from the day. |

if you're near city hall, i'd say pop into reading terminal market for lunch on saturday (or fri if you're here). any and every kind of food you could possibly want in there. dinic's roast pork was just voted the best sandwich in america. lines are long, but get there at off-peak times and enjoy heaven. - OrangeBlack27

geno's is garbage. go to jim's on south street.
also, you'll either love or hate old city depending on what you're looking for. mostly college/post-college age kids and the types of bars that appeal to that audience. there are, however, a couple really good beer bars in the area if you're more into that.
south street is super eclectic and has something for everyone from river to river (south street and the areas both north and south). i'd say just research the bars, restaurants and reviews and you'll find something you'll like. i'd recommend the german joint, brauhaus schmitz, but if you're looking for more of a party, might wanna head elsewhere. - OrangeBlack27
Agree on Geno's. Besides, Jim's is a nice walk from City Hall. I feel like South Street is high school college and Old City is the late 20s folks. Rittenhouse Square is the 30s clubs.
If you like history, don't miss the Constitution Center...well done intro presentation in the theater and the exhibits are pretty good. On culture you have the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Barnes Foundation. Science & Industry the Franklin Institute and Academy of Natural Sciences. Then some minor places like the Rosenbach (which has a lot of Sendak drawings and such), the Museum of Jewish American History (very well done and pretty new), The Mutter Museum (with icky medical rarities and stuff--an area Halloween season favorite).
Old City does have a concentration of galleries if you like to window shop for art.
There are a number of folks here who can tell you which of the beer bars are best (I'm allergic to hops, so can't point you), but Philadelphia is considered something of a microbrew mecca. So there are choices.

I think as soon as Giroux and Briere signed in the DEL together, it was pretty much a foregone conclusion that Simmonds and Stewart would not stay in Bundesliga beyond their 30-day deal.
The reason why they chose a minor league team was because they wanted to sign together and had been advised that otherwise interested teams in the top leagues either couldn't immediately secure insurance coverage for both of them (usually team corporate sponsors and private donors put up a significant portion of it, with the team covering the rest) or they didn't have two open import spots on their roster.
Even within German hockey (which is a mighty small realm, in comparison to soccer), Eispiraten is hardly a high-profile club. So they were eager to put their name out there by showing they could bring in two NHL players, and did a lot of legwork to make sure Simmonds and Stewart were able to get their insurance costs covered.
Now, Simmonds and Stewart want to play in a higher-caliber league and live and travel in other parts of Europe until the end of the lockout. There are no hard feelings on either side. - bmeltzer
There goes my theory that the lockout should be ending soon. Bummer....

The threads are a hazard today.
I went to Moshulu when it first opened. Sat at the bar and looked at the menu and ate at the Japanese place on Front Street just down from South.
Lolita's is really great. I would eat there all the time if I had cash falling out of my pocket or all prices were even. Instead I hit main street in Norristown for Mexican or a take out place in West Chester that's been there a couple years now and is family owned. |

The bottom line here is that it is a sin to go to the Reading Terminal and NOT get a pork san-gwich and Terminal Bros ricotta canolis.
Ya just need to accept this reality |

Mabels is good. It's a soul food place heading east out by the huge Wawa.
This place is called Don Gabriel Restaurant and it's in an old Wawa on 322 going out of town to the west near the Daily Local News and the shopping centers. The place is nothing that would catch your eye until you eat there. I've never had anyone go there and not go back repeatedly. Excellent pricing for made to order authentic Mexican food. |

MAB out indefinitely with an upper body injury. The one injury that can be ruled out is a concussion. |
