How were the players asinine last week?

Apparently they should have had a key made that unlocks the owners' lock.
So sick of this. The owners, for the third time since 1994, have locked out the players. The NHLPA was willing to play *while* negotiations were underway - a stance that Fehr stated as early as early summer, IIRC.
The owners, who claimed (via Gary Bettman's mouth) to have achieved cost certainty after wiping out the 2004-05 season, are now actually led by eight owners and Bettman. This group is maintaining a hardline stance and somehow getting people to think that the NHLPA is unwilling to negotiate.
The owners, via their GM's, are to blame for escalating salaries.
The owners are not willing to pay the players the very contracts that THEY drew up themselves.
The owners have allowed Gary Bettman to lead the NHL needing only eight owners to ally themselves with him, no matter the differences of opinion of the other 22. Two of these teams, NJ and Phoenix, are operated by the NHL!
The owners have allowed the league to over-expand and move into markets not commercially successful or viable.
The players are willing to meet the NHL at their demands of 50/50, but will do so over time. NHL wants it all
right now. The NHL is more responsible for this situation.
