1. MacKinnon, Monohan, Shinkaruk, Domi, Barkov, Drouin, Jones, Lazar, Erne

2. Best forward available, perferably a C

3. Depends when the CBA is signed and what it consists of.

4. See 3 above.

Leafs will make the playoffs if there is a season, forget getting one of the those most likely.

No idea. But there probably won't be a season, and the Leafs stand a good shot at getting a top pick in that case.

I personally hope there is one, Habs have a better chance with a short season to get a good pick

Could go either way. This team is far from a lock to make the playoffs, in any best case scenario. Good thing though is that its a pretty deep draft.

Canadian players are usually better players but not in this case. The only Canadian player that has Barkov beat is MacKinnon and it isn't even by that much.

Barkov is destroying the SM-Liiga and he's doing so at 17 years old. We're talking about a guy who is 6'2, 205 at 17 years old and plays what many describe as a Datsyuk style of play against professionals. 5th in league scoring with 13 goals and 27 points in 26 games with a +10 on one of the worst teams in the SM-Liiga.

Quick question though, who would you pick, Scott Pearson or Teemu Selanne?

- Two_For_Truth

Im very aware of how good he is, as well as his size. I just have other guys I would rather take for several reasons.

As for your question, I would take Selanne.

Quick question part 2, who would you pick, Jarome Iginla or Nik Antropov?

I would think they will do OK this year, most of their guys are playing in the AHL, they would come out strong. Teams with older guys will struggle out of the gate, will take a while for some to get back in game shape.

The 2001 Draft was pretty brutal after the first two picks. I bet as bad as they turned out being, half the busts were probably hyped to hell and many felt were cant miss prospects.

Was TSN doing their draft hype show then? If so then yes. They've geared it up with gimmicks for better ratings.

Not as intense as today, but yea they did those shows then too. Thats why its amusing to see people argue over which players should be ranked/picked in what slot. As dominant as players might be in their respective leagues, translating it to the NHL is a different animal. I remember when Kulemin posted solid numbers in the Russian leagues, and many felt he could turn out to be another Malkin because their stats were somewhat comparable.

As for your question, I would take Selanne.

Who cares what draft class they were. Asking whether someone would take Pearson or Selanne is absurd and pointless. Using the 1988 draft to make a case for Barkov.. Irrelevant indeed.

Im aware of Barkov, and I dont have him ranked where you do. Clearly my opinion of the draft order upsets and bothers you. How shocking. Did anyone see this coming? UG forum bullying because the world doesnt share his opinion.

This must be a Peca, Mitchell, Pogge, Earl, Tlusty thing...

Pearson and Selanne went in the same draft class. Pearson was a top OHL prospect and selected 6th overall. Selanne fell to 10th. Turned out great. Most of the time, Canadians come out on top but there are situations, much like that one, where a very special guy like Barkov is clearly on another level and proving it. Barkov is quite literally doing things in Finland that have never been done and all at the age of 17.

Wow, so you have to go back to 1988 to make your point.

You're the guy who took Zherdev and passed on Carter, Brown, Parise, Perry, Getzlaf, Suter and Richards arent you....

On a scale of 1-10, UG, how would you rate your anger over my prospect ranking?

Name a Finnish player who put up the numbers Barkov has put up at 16 and 17 in the SM-Liiga.

Unfortunately, you'll have to go back to 1988 to find a guy who had that kind of talent.

Might be some kind of sign that he's special.
