True. they'd end up drafting some French kid that should go in the fourth round. (see Leblanc, Louis) |

Name a Finnish player who put up the numbers Barkov has put up at 16 and 17 in the SM-Liiga.
Unfortunately, you'll have to go back to 1988 to find a guy who had that kind of talent.
Might be some kind of sign that he's special. - Two_For_Truth
Couldnt care less. It doesnt matter that he is Finnish. Why should I rank him higher for that?
It might be, it might not be. Just like Kulemin having better stats than Ovechkin in Russia doesnt mean Kulemin is the elite player and Ovechkin the 2nd liner. Might be a sign not to read too much into over seas dominance. |

Yup, them. French is priority, dont fake the funk. Its pointless to deny common knowledge. Just ask the GM hiring process. |

Ovechkin, drafted at 18, 13 goals, 23 points.
Kulemin, drafted at 20, 5 goals, 13 points.
Sure thing. |

Aww cute, using only 1 season as comparison. Their stats are comparable, very close, and Kulemin has had better seasons than Ovechkin. It happens. Their numbers arent that far off. Ovechkin never scored more than 13 goals in a season there. Kulemin scored 27 as his high. |

Leblanc was the first 1st round French guy since 1998, they draft the best guy available like every team. If there is a French guy available at their spot and they have him high on their list, they will pick him. Would be surprised if they try to grab Drouin next summer. |

Oh wait, you're going to try and justify stats Kulemin put up at the age of 21 and compare them to Ovechkin at the age of 19 aren't you?
Funny that while Kulemin scoring 27 in Russia, Ovechkin was busy scoring 52 goals and 106 points in the NHL.
But yeah, sure, Kulemin had better numbers than Ovechkin. |

The internet is a powerful thing. I would suggest learning to use google and discovering sites such as hockey db. Might cut down on your errors and help with player evalution. Might reduce the amount of Mitchell, Earl, Tlusty, Pogge, Wellwood etc meltdowns of the past and future. |

Kulemin had as good, and in some cases better, stats/seasons in Russia. This is fact. Im not comparing the two for any reason other than to point out that stats overseas dont translate to stats in the NHL.
Because the season before scoring 52 goals and 106 points in the NHL, Ovechkin only managed 13 goals in Russia. Thank you for proving my point. I knew you would point out how right I have been all along. I had faith in you and your inability to handle other peoples opinions! |

14 out of 251 players drafted from the Q went to Montreal, in the past 10 years. Twice the league average per team almost.
The BPA seems to coincidentally be French very often when the Habs pick comes up. |

Canadian players are usually better players but not in this case. The only Canadian player that has Barkov beat is MacKinnon and it isn't even by that much.
Barkov is destroying the SM-Liiga and he's doing so at 17 years old. We're talking about a guy who is 6'2, 205 at 17 years old and plays what many describe as a Datsyuk style of play against professionals. 5th in league scoring with 13 goals and 27 points in 26 games with a +10 on one of the worst teams in the SM-Liiga.
Quick question though, who would you pick, Scott Pearson or Teemu Selanne? - Two_For_Truth
The SM-Liga is a crap league, not as strong as it used to be. See Jesse Joensuu.....and the others on that scoring list. I like Barkov, I really do, but the strength of that league should be taken into consideration when talking about an underager performing well. ....as for the Scott Pearson thing, who would you rather pick, Zherdev or Getzlaf? or Vanek or Perry?
This is a strong class. A real strong one. |
