Name a Finnish player who put up the numbers Barkov has put up at 16 and 17 in the SM-Liiga.

Unfortunately, you'll have to go back to 1988 to find a guy who had that kind of talent.

Might be some kind of sign that he's special.

Mikael Granlund

Teemu Pulkkinen did it at 18.

The SM-Liga is a crap league, not as strong as it used to be. See Jesse Joensuu.....and the others on that scoring list. I like Barkov, I really do, but the strength of that league should be taken into consideration when talking about an underager performing well. ....as for the Scott Pearson thing, who would you rather pick, Zherdev or Getzlaf? or Vanek or Perry?

This is a strong class. A real strong one.

- mykokes

ITS DIFFERENT. THOSE WERENT 1988 DRAFTEES!

Most importantly, losers like Perry, Richards, Getzlaf arent Finnish.

14 out of 251 players drafted from the Q went to Montreal, in the past 10 years. Twice the league average per team almost.

The BPA seems to coincidentally be French very often when the Habs pick comes up.

- prock

Beaulieu, Ellis, Urquhart, Stewart, Micheal Lambert aren't French

Often rated the 2nd strongest in Europe and he's been playing there as a 16 and 17 year old.

Jesse Joensuu is 100% irrelevant. At what age did he start putting up league leading numbers? At 17 or 21?

Played a grand total of 2 games at the same age.

Teemu Pulkkinen did it at 18.

Not 16. Or 17. Also not even remotely close to the same size.

A guy who struggled to play in the AHL is one of the best players in that league, that's the point.

An early 1992 compared to a late 1995. Barkov already has 13 goals through 26 games. When Teemu Pulkkinen was 17 turning 18, he scored 1 goal and 3 points in 12 games.

Not 6'2, 205.

Not the same two-way ability.

Point is that it doesnt mean it will translate well to the North American game and ice, and is riskier than taking the home grown talent in most cases.

Yeah because Max Domi, at 5'9, is going to translate amazing to the NHL.

I like the swede more than the finnish kid personally. But a lot of hockey to be played, see if Barkov continues to improve.

There's something about Drouin too, can't wrap my finger around it, but I see him and I get this weird Eberle/Skinner feeling.

But ahead of Barkov.

Apparently, Barkov can't translate to the NHL but Max Domi at 5'9 is just going to slip right in.

Yup.

Monohan has 12 goals in 24 games.

Ill take the guy with 12 goals in 24 games in the OHL over the guy with 13 goals in 26 games in a Finnish league.

Thats my opinion. Get mad, get angry, whine all night if you want because its different than yours. Enjoy.

As it stands now, I probably would take Domi. But Domi is down on my list and not as high as guys like Monohan, Mac and Shinkaruk.

Thing is, both Barkov and Domi are risks and not a guarantee. But with Domi he could at least turn into a solid 3rd line player, whereas Euros dont often fit into those roles if they dont pan out as offensive weapons.

Monohan I like too, but confession, I loved both Cody Hodgson and Brayden Schenn just because they were centres.
