Ek, owners will comeback with their last proposal and say it's their best proposal. The make whole amount proposed doesn't even work anymore, more games/paychecks have been lost. |

The whole idea behind this lockout is to rid the CBA of the so called loop holes you're eluding to and make the league more solvent as a whole.
From what i've heard from some reputable sources in the MN hockey scene, the players could have ended this weeks ago had they just accepted the make whole offer with an immediate move to 50/50 and the owners would have most likely caved on 99% of the contractual issues.
But what happens to Donald Fehr's ego if he gives in first? |

Everytime Ek talks himself into a good mood the needle magically climbs towards drop the puck. |

I'm not buying it. There is more to it. I can't believe that the difference in Make Whole is holding this up. The difference between the Owner's Make Whole offer and the players Make whole offer adds up to about 1.2M annually for each team. When you consider that the League is losing 10-20M per day during the lockout. It's not just as simple as the players agreeing to the Owners Make Whole, and then the League will relent on the contract issues. If it is, it's shameful. And as another poster pointed out, the Make Whole number has to change as more games get cancelled. |

^ this for sure
something's not right about any of this (other than the obvious). the facts and the numbers we're given just don't seem to make sense (as in there is some other major issue we don't know about). the points I keep hearing are "make whole" or "soft landing" and the hard-number cap going down after year two.
so what if the whole season is gone ? make whole for the entire year lost ? no way. year two becomes year three ? revenues will be pathetic both years.
lose the entire year and every major issue just resets to zero... dollars that is
so you're fighting this out to keep UFA from being pushed back a year ?
just NOT adding up

So you're saying this whole thing comes down to semantics? Gary didn't hear the magic words he wanted even though he KNEW what Fehr was really asking?
I find this whole premise extremely hard to believe Eklund. |

Just read this via larry brooks. With the rangers recent success one would have to think dolan would be pushing for a deal. Hes already on record saying he wanted to be playing already |

Dolan wants this lockout about as much as he wants to have dinner with Bettman. What probably puzzles him is why is Jacobs such a hawk. After all, he has a tremendous fan base, a beautiful new arena. Oh wait, maybe he's just a money grubbing slob. That management group is laughable. Leonias is a blow hard, Leipold is Jacobs puppett and Edwards is small potatoes. No wonder we can't get a deal. Get rid of Bettman and the slob, there would most likely be a deal in hours.
Edit: Where are the Molson family and Rogers Communication in all this? There franchises are the face of the NHL, get off the sidelines and help make a deal. |

Hope Dolan is better at negotiating a deal than he is at providing quality cable. |

I would be curious to know what is the stance of small market owner teams, they + some players other then the usual suspects (Campoli,Darche, Hainsey and Mayers) should be in that room. |

Darren Dreger @DarrenDreger
Pitt's Ron Burkle,Mtl's Geoff Molson also among many owners who would want to get involved. Canes GM J.Rutherford is an owner. He can help. |
