@aaronward_nhl Aaron Ward
Even the podium has gone home for the night...as should we!
And a picture of an empty stage, just in case you didn't believe him.

Yeah not sure why he was hanging out by himself where the podium used to be.
Of course, I'm hanging out on Hockeybuzz in the middle of the night, so I can't really say anything. |

Even though 50 million of the new, 300 million from the owners on the "make whole" goes to the pension, I think that is as far as they can expect the owners to move on that.
They should call the CBA at 7 years from 10, make the contract length match at 7 years. Then work out bargaining contingencies to avoid a work stoppage in 7 years and get back on the damn ice..

League has dropped the arbitration change demand - confirmed
Contract would be 8yrs with a 2yrs extension window
Make whole amount -getting close
No agreement on contract terms, players don't want a limit on terms - Symba007
I just don't get this on the player's part. There just is not enough of these to fight over. There will likely be even less if there is a strict $ variance limit.
It is significant for the NHL though. It prevents players signing for 25 years at 4 million... where the current GM, figures "F-it, I won't be here to deal with the mess anyway).

So the owners came up on Make Whole, despite no 82 game season. This affords a softer landing than the NBA or NFL got.
I just read that the 7 years to FA would not change, so the owners backed off of that also.
Now, the players are sticking on the 5 year contract limit. WTF? How many players does this affect. I don't get this at all. |

That issue is interesting because I think for the most part, fans want to see those long term contracts go out the window as well. I like the idea of giving the team who already has a player's rights the ability to sign them to a longer term deal... I think some competitive advantage to retaining your own players is welcome.
Edit: And yes, while it's true the owners/GMs handed out those long term deals in the first place, these guys are competing with each other once labor negotiations are over. If there's a competitive edge in the CBA to acquire a better player and make your team better than your rival, you'd use it and offer the player 1-2 more years of guaranteed money than the next team. As much cynicism as there is these days, I do think the owners actually want to win for the most part. If the CBA restricts that part of things, then the top players will always get 5 year deals (or 7 from the same team) and that factor is out of discussion. I think that's alright |

She seems offended by a guy seamlessly turning an awkward situation into a funny one by drinking a beer. Puzzling |

Imagine if this had been done months and months ago?
It's hilarious; "ZOMG, they might have a deal!" - MunsterMike
I know Bettmans is the owner's lackey and Fehr is a perfect f*cking Ahole...
It really does make you wonder though. What would happen if neither side paid these idiots, and instead just got together in a room.
I understand the "process" and the need to be pressured into making concessions. I just seriously think that Bettman and Fehr make the process slower, dumber, and more adversarial. |

The players are really looking worse and worse.
All I see are the owners giving and giving and the players wanting more and more!!!
This gets done by Friday or the season will be canned!!
