It will never happen (obviously). The only parties that would really benefit are the top 3 teams in the league making 84% of league revenues (of course it would make for a more healthy league overall, but you would have to think the top teams would be the only ones FOR the contraction option).
The players don't want less jobs, and 10 owners aren't just going to fold up their franchises.
In reality, they will probably add 2 more teams in the near future. - niedermayer27
They might not have a choice. A lost season is likely going to kill a few franchises. Ideally, it would be nice to move a few rather than letting them fold but how many cities are ready to take an NHL team on short notice? I wonder if the players are considering that a lost season could cost them some permanent jobs. |

From your perspective, thats a lose-lose situation.
From a Leafs fan's point of view its a mix bag full of a plethora of emotions and wishes.
Im a Leaf fan and winning a cup in an 82, 48, 25 or 1 game season is better than anything weve seen, had and will mostly get for decades. Ill take anything I can get, because only an idiot fan would suggest that not watching their team play is better than watching their team win a cup. - systemtool
I don't consider a 48 game season a legitimate season. I get that you have a different opinion. I don't think that makes either of us "idiot fans". Thanks for the input. |

Its legitimate if they play and compete. What makes one an idiot fan is not the definition of a legitimate season. Its choosing to not watch your team at all as opposed to watching them win a cup.
Either way, state your opinion as your opinion. Dont state it on behalf of Leaf fans. Most fans, especially fans of any sport in Toronto, will say that winning is not a lose-lose situation. |

I didn't state it on behalf of all Leafs fans, I said "from a Leafs' fan's persepective" because it's my perspective and it was relevant to point out that I'm a Leafs fan. I forgot why I stopped coming here, the nit-picking is out of control. |

Im constantly reminded why so many people insult and laugh at the Leafs and their fans. Suggestions like wanting your team to not play instead of winning a cup will do it every time.
Besides, you shouldnt be using nit-picking as an excuse to play down your comments. You got called out on it, own up. It happens. Your boys will drop one day. |

Anyone who says a Cup win in a shortened season isn't legitimate is just trying to cover their own heckling ass when their team doesn't win so they can spin the non-legit Cup win on the other teams fans. If your teams name is engraved on Lord Stanley then it's legit. Ask Marty Brodeur. No one says "well, one of Marty's Cups is a shortened season so it really doesn't count" Stop whining about a shortened season Cup. Guarenteed when the Cup is hoisted, if there is a season, no one from that teams fanship will come out and say it doesn't count. |

Boooring. Just imagine if they did and your team won the cup? Oh the horror. Its much more entertaining and fullfilling to have no hockey than have to follow a team thats winning a cup.

Agreed on the bolded part; if the Blues won the Cup in a shortened '12-13 season, I'd celebrate that from the rooftops every day of the year and make sure everyone around knew it. That said, given where both sides stand now if they scrap the season I'll be fine with it - in fact, I encourage them to do it. |

Yea...cause this year has been so hectic it hasnt given them the chance to figure things out. With all these games being played, they do need some time off to regroup and refocus. |

Not really. The Flyers are rich with young talent. Their problem lies in the same place it has for years, between the pipes. They bounce from goalie to goalie like their picking a bag of potato chips. Bryzgalov without Sean Burke coaching him is a disaster. If there is a buyout period you're fine. |
