The only concern the Oilers should have right now is if their goaltending can play at a decent level, aside from that they should be greatly improved on ice and in the standings.

Not in a non CBA world they wouldn't. The other thing to remember..In a non-CBA world, there would not be any free agents. Players would be the property of the teams for life. They wouldn't do it directly. But they could suggest that a team who signs a 'free agent' has to compensate the other team in a manor that no team would sign a free agent. The players do not want to try the owners resolve on this.

Do you understand the concept of a free market? The 3 or 4 people who are the best in the world at something have considerable market power. You deal with their agents if they say you deal with their agents.

Where does property of a team for life come from? I don't understand your points about free agents. Everybody is a free agent when their contract expire and teams cannot suggest compensation. That is collusion.

This is not a goodvsystem for most players but it is a great system for the best players.
