There wasn't a serious hatred between the league and the players in those two instances, either. Contrast that with how the NHL and NHLPA feel about each other.

I am almost completely done with anything and everything the PA has to say at this point as long as it's backed by Donald Fehr.

Per TSN:
NHL players will begin voting Sunday on whether they'll grant their executive board the authority to dissolve the NHL Players' Association. Two-thirds of the union's membership must vote in favour of allowing the executive board to file a "disclaimer of interest," according to a source. Votes will be cast electronically over a five-day period that ends Thursday.

So basically we won't see any further developments until at least Thursday.

Bettman will eventually set a drop dead date to get a deal done of something like January 10. If we are going to see a deal done, it will happen on this date. No way it happens before that. Fehr wants to sit on his ass and drag this out as long as possible.

yes, they did settle. but, generally speaking, NFL and NBA players come from poorer socio-economic backgrounds than that of NHL players. NHLers, generally speaking, are rich kids. they feel more entitled and are much more spoiled. they want their way and will go down kicking and screaming. these are the kids that think they are above their bosses. they don't even understand the employer/employee relationship. these clowns think it is unfair for their employers to cut their wages. hello!!! this isn't about fair, and if you weren't such a bunch of spoiled brats, you'd understand that.

I will be stunned if these players come to their senses and choose to take a decent deal and collect 6 pay checks over 'beating Bettman'. they will choose to kill the season because they can't live with 5 year contracts and a 10 year CBA (oh, the horrors), and above all, they can't let that little nerd beat them.

So over in the Yost thread I posted a link to the story

http://www.torontosun.com...tracts-if-nhlpa-dissolves

someone followed it up with the statement that the NHL has lost 10% of its games over the past 20 years to work stoppages while the next closest league has lost 2%.

I would like MJL to please explain how the NHLPA are not to blame for the above statement. I would then like a pro-owner MJL to explain how the owners are not to blame. I am also not attacking MJL by saying the above. Regardless of if I agree with him or not his arguments for the NHLPA are usually fairly understandable.

This whole situation is beyond an embarrassment. Ek can claim all he wants that it's part of the process well if that is the case, the process is broken beyond repair. The players have now lost substantially more then if they would have agreed to a deal and the owners are ok with losing a second season in 8 years. Freaking ridiculous and the two sides deserve each other right now.

Quite a naive (not to mention simplistic) perspective there. To each their own, I guess.

This is a little confusing! But yea, the fact that it's lasted this long. The process is certainly broken. I still have hope for a Season though.

The NFL and NBA were more popular leagues than the NHL is currently. The NFL generates too much money and is extremely popular in the States, they knew they couldn't lose a season. The backlash would be enormous. The NHL doesn't garner the same popularity as the NBA and NFL. Those sports have the benefit of ESPN shoving it down our throats, and in the States if ESPN backs you your going to be popular
