There should be one rule for everyone. While technically a mulligan rule would apply to everyone, it would only really be for the benefit of 6 teams. |

They had that last year with the 57-43 split. Next. - jmatchett
The players were never going to get anything. They already get more share of revenues than any of the other major sports. Everyone knew they were headed to a 50/50 split. For the players it was always about them giving up as little as possible. |

I wrote this below earlier and I stand by it, the players are grasping at straws. It is their own fault they are not playing right now, because the incremental benefit of any further concessions, which WILL BE minimal compared to what they gave up on balance, history will show them to be dumb. And now they sit and want more assurances on next years revenues. Here is a hint....sign a deal and start playing again IDIOTS!
How would you like to be an NHL player getting set for holidays?
Regardless if you are a Ford/Chevy guy, owner/player or lean left or right, here is where we sit right now and it really is this simple.
The owner/player direct meeting, which culminated in the meltdown a few Thursdays ago is where the players overplayed their hand.
Players and moderate owners had good faith negotiations and when owners made some concessions and believed the end was near, Fehr pulled Crosby and other pawns and moved the goal posts once again. That party foul or lack of negotiation decorum has backed players into the corner.
It is safe to say that it was a planned ploy hoping to get one more round of owner concessions. Instead they pushed to far.
I really believe now that the owners will sit and do nothing until the players (Spoiled children) stop stamping their feet and throwing tantrum and come down and face reality.
While there are a lot of labor lovers and people who hate the "man" as evidenced by the current political environment in the US. All emotion aside, you can not squeeze blood from a turnip. This issue is simple math. The players have to give owners enough/some incentive to own a team. I know JJ and others will point to leagues judgement errors in expanding to poor markets, but at the end of the day...that has created more jobs and total revenue growth.
Players betting owners fear losing more money, do not realize that their net loss will be the same with or without playing. More importantly, it is not worth owning a hobby that costs millions each year. Fixed costs are minimal. The largest expense items for teams is player salary and travel.
And if you lose teams, you lose hockey jobs. Again, insane.
So as the players stare at their wives at Christmas dinner or now as they finish their Christmas shopping.....how will those daggers effect these guys. - TrueGrit
I guess they forgot how well holding out worked last time. |

So that means we should reward poor business decisions and throwing money at average players? Isn't that partly what got us to this point in the first place?
They should go form their own league then if they have it so bad. Then they can buy out as many players as they like. |

Poor business decisions? You mean the types that lead to millions of dollars in losses? They already ARE rewarded by getting money from the successful teams.

Never said they have it bad. Also, this is not about buying out (you already can in the NHL), this was about an amnesty clause. I'm sure they're understanding that they have to give a helping hand to the failing franchises, but I'd think that if the other franchises are entitled to receiving free money, the ones providing it should entitled to some privileges (which, as stated, is actually a privilege available to everyone). |

And there are teams on the brink of being either relocated or completely imploding due to it.
The only reason they have kept their head above water is due to the larger markets. Even if there were relocations to strengthen the league, there are not enough expansion locations to even take on these drowning teams. Two, maybe three could be relocated if lucky.
If the CBA had continued as was, probably 4-5 teams would have collapsed in a couple years, losing tons of jobs for the NHLPA. Even now, due to all the damage done from this lockout, even if they signed on the dotted line for the deal available, I bet these teams will still be gone. There is no way HRR will come close to what it has been over the past couple years. The damage is done and the NHLPA can be happy when they see 100-200 jobs gone.
Good job boys.

That's a lot of questions but I'll answer as best as I can. First of all, Kudos to you for even knowing that there IS a difference!!
Miss USA is mostly about looks. There are three phases of competition all weighted equally - evenging gown, swimsuit and interview.
Miss America is more about the total package. There are five phases of competition - Talent at 35%, Interview at 25%, Evening Gown at 20%, Swimsuit at 15% and On Stage Question at 5%.
There are three things that really make the Miss Ameica system different...there is a talent portion, the interview is much more intense and, most imprtantly, it provides millions of dollars in scholarships not only to the winners, but runner ups, preliminary winners, etc. every year.
Neither system is necessarily "better" than the other. They are just different. There are girls that are successful only in one system, but there are many that crossover and are successful in both.
Hope this explains it |

I was ready to argue my ass off here for a good 6 weeks or so but it takes a special kind of person to keep spewing that poop out.
I have to admit that I find the anger mostly directed at the players astounding. |

I can't deny that the 50/50 split is necessary (actually, as you said, it's probably not enough). Still, if the NHL came to the players and said, "gives us back 9% of your salaries or we'll laying 100 of you off" it doesn't sound so rosy. If the NHL said, "If you give us a 9% rollback, we'll offer 1 year less to UFA" or something of the sort, it's amuch easier pill to swallow. |

They're going down because of the 57/43 split and not because Leafs, Habs, Rangers, etc keep generating revenues and driving up the floor??
I get a kick out of the idea that a proposed 7% rollback against HRR is going to help these teams when the salary floor was set to rise 9% this year alone.
Anyway, I sure MLSE and the other big market franchise will enjoy the savings brought on by this CBA and are very likely to express their pleasure by rolling back ticket prices by the same amount.
PS -- I am weak and cannot stay away.

Under an Amnesty rule: can a team trade for a player and then buy them out?
(example: trade scraps for Dipietro and a few first round draft picks)
Does anyone know if the wealthier NBA teams did this? It seems like you wouldn't be allowed to, because this is like trading cash for draft picks. |

If you have it, you don’t need it. If you need it, you don’t have it. If you have it, you need more of it. If you have more of it, you don’t need less of it. You need it to get it; and you certainly need it to get more of it. But if you don’t already have any of it to begin with, you can’t get any of it to get started, which means you really have no idea how to get it in the first place, do you? You can share it, sure; you can even stockpile it if you’d like; but you can’t fake it. Wanting it, needing it, wishing for it; the point is: if you’ve never had any of it, ever, people just seem to know. |
