Most small market teams can't afford to buyout a player and then spend money on another player to take his place while at the same time still paying the guy they just bought out. Larger market teams can easily spend the money to replace their mistakes while most small market teams can't - Vukota
and thats fair.
if the large market teams are the ones fronting the bill for the small market teams they should receive some sort of compensation.
this is a good one actually.. not over the top, but it hands the wealthier teams a slight advantage. basically a thanks from the small market teams. |

my cousin actually found 3 people... THREE PEOPLE who were willing to bet him $500.00 each that the world was going to end Friday
on Saturday he expects to be 1500$ richer.
if he's wrong.. well.. he wont have to worry about paying up. lol |

Good point, my only problem is that teams small or large market should not be able to send those guys down to the AHL and lose that money off the cap. That has to go |

kind of hit its apex 2 weeks ago with the b2b press conferences. (frank) that was priceless... that smug sack of piss Fehr basically saying "(frank) you" to just about everyone, Bettman convulsing with rage for 30 minutes, eyes popping out of his sockets... - DoubleDown
Actually yeah, that was pretty much the peak.
It could get good again though!!
sadly, I think we'll just see compromised numbers on the last 2 issues and a half-assed season. Yawn. |

players should have signed that deal in november...I keep hearing about all the great things Fehr has "won" by waiting. Yes the offers have got a little better but there is still no deal so the players have lost all this money they will never get back. Now add the significant damage to the game and the players are (frank)ed. Other than the lack of hockey its pretty funny really |

i'm okay with that.. what was it that was proposed.. any player sent to the AHL making more than a million still counts against the cap?
I think thats fair.. if a team really wants to replace a vet with a kid they can.. but they cant clear out vets just to sign other high profile players |

Further, he throws Toronto in there... and they don't need a 1 time buyout. They were careful to not sign these bizarrely hopeless deals. - Aetherial

I think it is hard to qualify that the big market teams are footing the bill for the small market teams given the current revenue sharing in the NHL.
The last CBA had sharing dollars at $150M if I'm not mistaken which based on previous revenues would amount to a whopping 4.5%. So how exactly is that "footing the bill"? |

That's not what he is saying.
There should be one rule for everyone. While technically a mulligan rule would apply to everyone, it would only really be for the benefit of 6 teams. - niedermayer27
True but they are changing the rules so now all of the one way contracts that are dumped in the AHL will count against the cap. You have to provide a way for teams to become cap compliant without having to trade their star players. Bettman is on a mission to punish the profitable teams to save his poor decision on expansion location. The big teams are already providing them with money to help them compete. With these changes players will in the end make less because teams will no longer take chances with signing risky free agents. |
