Hey Glucky,

I know L Schenn is right handed. Has he ever been used on the power play? How did that turn out?

- Philly1980

Luke Schenn saw little time on the PP as a Leaf. With the exception of the 10/11 Season where he averaged .59 a game on the PP. He did not register a PP point in that Season.

Id like to see the flyers try him out regardless.

Well since he's RH I believe, it's possible he sees some time there.

Routing that Junior juggernaut German team!
- MJL

It's a better German team on paper -- but certainly not from the results against Canada yesterday and the USA today-- than the one that beat USA in the opener of the 2006-07 tourney.

Honestly, I have no idea, Bill. I don't know much about any of the teams. Just doesn't seem like Germany is ever at the top of International play.

When JVR was drafted sure there was disappointment that the Flyers did not get the first pick and get Kane, but I still had very high hopes for him. Never in my wildest dreams did I think he would underachieve like he did.

Injuries and performance caused the Flyers to sell low on him, a transaction that may very well come back to haunt Holmgren.

Without an obvious offensive option on the blueline (that is, besides Kimmo and the still-recovering Meszaros) I imagine we'll see everybody get a shot. Schenn will have to be outstanding to advance past that right-handed cannon Matt Walker, though

In Holmgren's defense, JVR was traded straight up for a player who'd similarly fallen into the 'underachieve/sell low' situation. Given the fleeting value at the Flyers blueline and the wealth of offensive peices, it wasn't a bad trade. I felt it was kind of a lateral, all things considered.

It's not a feel good situation, but I wouldn't diagnose Holmger with egg-on-face syndrome.

JVR has the skill and the talent ... All you have to do is just watch the boston series to see that.... Determination and the will to bring it every night .... thats a no.

I'm not saying the Flyers got a bag of pucks for JVR, but it's a pretty safe assumption that JVR has a higher ceiling than Schenn. Granted they play two different positions, and the Flyers have a greater need on the blueline.

Only way to evaluate this trade is time. In about 3 years we will know if it worked out.

That series vs. Boston is what has me concerned. If he puts it together and finds a way to stay healthy and get a level of consistency watch out.

Or Luke Schenn can continue to develop and with the physical tools he has. He can blossom into a top stay at home physical defenseman that every team needs. That is capable of playing a strong shut down role against top players in key game situations.

Hopefully that is what happens. I don't understand why Toronto was making him a healthy scratch at times, a team going nowhere, it makes zero sense having a young player sit in the press box.

I think he had big issues with phaneuf.... A fresh start is what this kid needs to blossom. I got a good feeling about him.

Young players sometimes need some time to sit back and watch. Defense is the hardest position to learn.

I don't know if that is true. What is JVR's ceiling? What is Luke Schenn's ceiling?

That's kind of the thing for me, is that I can't really have an idea of Luke Schenn's ceiling. The kid attracted a lot of vocal dissent, largely due to sky high expectations, and I'm just not the kind of hockey fan who's going to form an opinion based on that. His situation has changed, and who's to say what they've seen is what we'll get? Not to be a Richard, but that Maple Leafs team hasn't had a reputation for making players look good (at least, not its own players).

Well I know one thing. It's hard to say with Luke Schenn that what you see is what you get. While he doesn't have a high level of skill as far as the offensive side of the puck. He brings a lot of physical tools to the ice. And he is still only 23. So there is a ton of room for growth there. He's already been a high minute defenseman at a very young age. I think there is a lot of upside there and room for growth.

Well said. He will be a solid number 4 (maybe 3) for years to come. Nothing wrong with that.
