If the other rules are still in place Olesz could stay in Rockford. Rocky pays and he is content there it seems, especially now coming off another surgery to same knee. - Al
I agree.
Bears out also what I was hearing last year—the knee was not properly healed.

Amen to that Al. I had the pleasure of having Garret play on my rec team this summer before he went to Guelph.
Humble, hard working, all around good guy. he'll be a pro soon. - Return of the Roar
There is a story there I hope to write someday...I have met his sister.
I think there are 3 kids from Elmhurst who have gone away to play Jr's.

Max Talbot? Pascal Dupois? type guy. Gets Greasy goals, hustles has skill...can move up and down roster? Does that sound right? - TrueGrit
Mmmmm, maybe. I think he has more skill than either of those guys. Bolland, Kruger, Mikhail Grabovski, Mike Peca possibly even a Doug Gilmour are better comparables.

Just found out recently he hurt the same knee in March or April last year...
Evidently turned out to be serious, had surgery, and should be back to work in Jan/Feb.
The good news for him is Olesz has been receiving his entire salary. |

So 50/50 ? 60/40 there will be a season ?? Im kinda tired of waiting. My usual Hawks angst is now Lockout angst .... waiting for the hawks to make a trade... waiting for the hawks to sign some one...... waiting for the lockout to end..... - mrpaulish

I kept hearing the knee was not stabilizing like it should after the 2011 surgery. He could play but some of the tighter skating moves (turns, cuts) were a little iffy because the knee was not stable. The "re-injury" to the extent there was one probably came from him trying to play his way through it while not fully recovered.

If re-entry waivers are discontinued there would be no issue recalling Olesz once his knee has healed. |

Not sure how and why but I do know for sure he re-injured the same knee and now has been cut twice.
That's why he isn't playing anywhere.

There is no issue recalling him period.
Who is going to claim Olesz even at half price??
Especially after 2 surgeries on the same knee. |

He can skate and shoot and appears to have a pretty fierce demeanor, willing to go hard to the front of the net. Plus, Russia uses him on both special teams, which is typically the mark of a smarter, skilled player.
Danault with the lone assist on Canada's only goal in 5-1 loss to the US. Did not see that coming BTW. - John Jaeckel
Did Shalunov play in the loss against Sweden ? Didn't see the game. And kudos to team U.S.A. for thumping my Canadian team who were uninspiring from the the start of this game.
And the kid Gaudrault is tiny...but what a tourney this diminutive, deadly, SNIPER is having. |

Thx JJ. Ice Hogs in Southern Ontario this weekend. Hoped to hit both games, but will only make the Toronto game. Look forward to seeing the boys live.

They're a fun team to watch. I was at the wolves game and boy was that game all Hogs. They were quite a bit like the hawks though, lots of shots on the fly and cycling in the corners. Unfortunately the cycling doesn't often lead to good shots. They had the 1st period shots at like 21-9 on the arena scoreboard |

Agreed... the better team definitely won.
I would disagree that there was a vastly superior difference in net. Gibson is really really good but Subban had little to no support on some of those goals. He didn't see either of the first 2 goals as he was completely screened (5-6 guys in front of him on the first) and unless Gibson has x-ray vision he wouldn't have stopped those either.
I would quote Bobby Mac on this loss "a complete team failure" rather then put the blame solely on Subban. I still think he still has high potential due to his competitive nature to be the best, I think all those Subban boys install that same trait. - TyCamScore
I didn't intend to blame the loss on Subban with my comment but I don't think he is anywhere close to being a #1 NHL goaler anytime soon. But I do believe Gibson and the Russian kid have a bigger upside long term than he does. So hard to tell with goaltenders at age 19 which is why drafting any of them in 1st round is a questionable strategy.
The USA was clearly the better team and I expect them to win Gold. |

Maybe...We are all spit balling at this point.
But StanBo will have big decisions to make...If Cap is $60 mill they would have about $25 mill to allocate for 17 players... - Al
I have to think the $60M cap that weasel Bettman wants isnt being viewed favourably at all by big market teams like Chicago, Rangers, Philly, Montreal, Detroit, Boston, Vancouver, Toronto etc. What does it do for them, they will have to crater their teams - months after they were told it was OK to spend to $70M. And for what -so Columbus, Nashville, Carolina et al can be on equal terms? Or did I miss a recent announcement from NBC that they want to broadcast more Blue Jacket - Hurricane - Coyote games on the weekends. |

Please don't take anything personally....I have no problem with you at all.
As far as being cranky....Yep probably ....
I want to start writing again and until a few weeks ago my thinking was there was a strong likelihood this season was toast but.....
Recently I have gotten optimistic about things but the clown rodeo doesn't stop...
I hoped this would be over by the weekend and now that appears to be not very likely.
I didn't pick up the sarcasm on your Olesz comment...In general, imo we all waste too many keystrokes on him.
By all acounts a nice guy who realizes his place...I'm happy for him, although having to get cut again he did receive his full pay.
I enjoy the banter here that's why I partake but if I disagree with anyone it is just me expressing my opinion and nothing else. |

It's part of the bigger picture along with term limits and smaller varaince.
My guess is the owners won't get all those points to fly but enough will get through so most players will be earning less money in the future...At least until more revenue is somehow found. |

Its ok, you can disagree with me or be angry at me, I'm use to it - I'm married. I wasn't taking anything personally, just wanted to make sure all it well with you. I certainly don't mind people disagreeing with me, we come to boards like this to express ourselves and hear other people's opinions.
I haven't been optimistic at all during this process, I've fully expected the season to be canceled since the summer. This lockout has a 2005 vibe for me.
