You're right, but two long (owner initiated) work stoppages inside of a decade can erode those waiting list numbers quicker than you think.

The tough thing for me is watching these CBAs unfold. I really don't care about the other 29 teams. I watch hockey no matter who's playing but the Flyers are my team. The only thing I care about when the Flyers skate out is that they beat whoever else is out there with them.

Do I care about the health of the league? Not really. I don't care if there are 60 or 10 teams in the league as long as the Flyers are one of them. If the fans don't support the team and the team doesn't make money then they don't deserve to get the best players.

I'm a capitalist when it comes to the NHL. Everything they do that cripples my team from acquiring and/or holding onto our good players makes me mad. Why should we only be allowed to pay 60 million for players when we are more than willing to pay 110 million? Let Ed Snider run his business. If he's losing to much money he'll tighten his grip on his wallet. If he can't he can cash out.

Needless to say I liked the NHL much better prior to the turn of the century.

Obviously I am cheering for Canada, but I really think the US has a good shot to win this with Gibson in goal. Russia almost lost to the Swiss and I think they are vulnerable. They are getting a taste of the pressure Canada always feels when they are the home squad (and in general because it's watched so closely in this country).

i agree, it will be a good game tomorrow. US has solid D, penalty kill, and Gibson has been great. The offense can hurt them with missed chances though which was obvious in the 2-1 losses to both Canada and Russia. If the US can stay out of the box and capitalize on their chances I think they can get to the gold game. Good luck tomorrow

I can only speak for myself but I dropped my season tickets this year but it was a result of two things:

1. The Phillies. While it may not show in numbers and profits for the Flyers the Phillies long runs and WS win tapped the secondary market for regular season games. I couldn't give them away. I wasted so many tickets that it got to the point where I started attaching a monetary value to them. It's one thing to waste a couple pair, it's another to toss away a quarter of the season or more.

2. Time. When my son was younger I could go to 30+ games a season. With his hockey schedule it dwindled to 20+/-

It was a difficult decision. I wavered many times but I was paying almost as much for end of the rink 2nd to last row tickets that I had been paying to sit 6th row on the blue line just 7 years ago. So, after nearly 30 seasons, I'm out.

I will tell you that with this current mess I won't be going to any games this season. I don't know when I'll darken their door again.

That's pretty much how I feel. My family has had season tickets for years and at one point I was going to all the games. Then you go through marriage, birth of a child, then divorce and it puts everything in perspective in how you want to spend your time.
My family still has the tickets and I may go to a game from time to time but the true passion isn't there along with the $$$. Plus, when i do go to a game, i head out to go into the city first then go see the the game. Saves money versus the crazy prices of crap they have in the stadium.
I'm still going to follow the Flyers, as you can see I said Flyers not the NHL.

There is a large part of me that agrees with that totally. I'm not going to be one who is happy about the lowering of the Cap, or any of the contract rules that limit's what a team can do. I don't have any objections to anyone who thinks it's good for the health of the League or for parity. They're right about that. But I'm not going to be happy when the Flyers can't make the moves they want to make, or have to let good players out the door, because of it. Just being honest about it.

I think they learned that the only effect lowering prices had was to earn them less money. It didn't gain them any good will more or less. I'd be surprised if the Flyers did anything other maybe offer a few things they could write off.

The brand new STH pricing structure makes any roll backs difficult when you have to calculate section by section and row by row. It's easier to give out free pretzels or earn the fans favor off the backs of the players by trotting them out to a couple extra events or having them sign pucks to give away.

They need to make back some money so they want the Leafs to have a few home playoff games.. Sad part is, they'd prob have to add 8 more teams to the playoffs for them to make it.

I can be just as big of a Flyers fan watching from home without being taken advantage of as a ticket buying consumer in what is, essentially, a gate driven league.

I read on this site, I think it was the Oilers guy, say that the US had no chance against the depth of the Canadian squad. While I agree that Canada is stacked there's no way you can count any team with a solid defense and quality goaltending out of a one and done tournament like this.

I thought it was foolish to be so dismissive.

I believe more people cancelled them over the cost of them not the lockout. When I first got my tickets they were $21 cost per game for STH. Now those same seats are $44 per game for STH. I gave them up in 2010 but it's just not affordable for many & my seats were the 2nd to last row up top behind the net they shot at twice.

It's starting to look like NJ down there. Week night games, the lower bowl is half to three quarters full depending on the opponent. Even the weekends find it oft times far under capacity. People/companies are buying them for the playoff tickets and to give them away as perks on the weekends.

Even in the upper deck the community isn't what it was. there just aren't people living the NHL game the way they used to because they can't afford it.

That's why I gave them up 2 years ago, it wasn't because I didn't want to go anymore it was more towards the cost of them.
