But then again, I have this theory that every parent has the most beautiful children in the world.
Despite your slight jab, I wish you well in the New Year. My original post was meant to create a slight laugh for some. It may have worked on some, but not all.

Because he's way better than any other option the Flyers have currently (i.e. Leighton, Hovinen, Heeter).
He wasn't given a job partially because CSKA already had a good goalie in Stana, and preferred to give the bulk of work as opposed to a guy who was going to jump ship if/when the lockout ended.
Holmgren traded for Schenn, a defensive defenseman. He will likely be a better defenseman than Kubina was.
A waste if he performs as he did for the 2-month stretch from mid-November to mid-January. If he performs like he did in the first month of the season or the last 3 months of the season, he's worth the money. - jmatchett
1. Who cares who plays instead of Bryzgalov we're not going to win the cup any way
2. If Stana is so good why is he in the KHL?
3. Operative word is likely. He isn't as good right now.
4. And if Bryzgalov performs like the guy who's head is out in the universe like the REST of the season then we wont' go anywhere

I really think some people are selling Bryz short. He was great down the stretch, won a series vs Pitt where both D's were very porous and was the only reason we were even in the last 4 games of the NJ series. I'm just not sure we can replace him at 2-3 mil without a Pronger type #1 patrolling on D. I love Timo but he's gonna have to play monster minutes. Thank God it s a short season. - Hextall271
No goalie won that series. That was a goal scorers dream that Pittsburgh series and the poor play carried right over to the NJ series. They couldn't get it corrected and they got smashed. When they did climb back into a game he whiffed on a blue line shot that put them down two in the 3rd.
There are four Pronger type defensemen in the NHL. If you're waiting to get one of them to rescue Bryz you're waiting for a miracle.
Right now it's more of a dollar and term factor multiplied by production that doesn't add up. When you have league backups out performing your 10 million dollar starter and there's a chance to remove the 7 year term on his contract you have to take it. |

Bryz is a great goalie and was hung out to dry a lot...No one remembers the wide open guys in the crease. When the team committed to playing a little defense, he was the best in the league, put luongo, thomas, or any other headcase in there and see if they do....Not his fault the flyers gave him the contract that they did. |

Doesn't matter whose fault the contract is. The contract is as much of an issue as his performance and it needs to be corrected.
I found it just as impossible to justify that contract before he even played a game in Orange and Black and even more so as I watched him struggle to get to .900 all season. He's not performing, he's been a locker room problem and his contract is outrageous for any goalie let alone a sub par one.
I don't hate the guy or even dislike him but the situation calls for the team to take the resolution that's been made available to it.

Any truth to the rumor that Andy Reid will play a rack of ribs like a harmonica at his press conference in KC? |

Holmgren was asked today regarding the availability of Giroux and Briere, and he gave the ominous no comment answer.
It will be a hoot if these guys aren't ready to play if/when the season starts. |

If it's a replay of last season it has to be done.
All of this is based on my expecting his performance to mirror last years play.
Listen, if they win the Cup and he's a cornerstone of the run you'd be a goofball to consider it. There's a measure in there somewhere when the tide could change. Sitting here right now not knowing how the next six months are going to unfold it's easy for me to say buy him out.
In my head I just can't picture that happening. I've been surprised before. Even if they win the Cup and he's the MVP that contract is still going to gnaw at my brain like a mouse at the cellar door. The rest of the house will be party central! |
