Why is it even imp if they are gonna limit deals to 7yrs anyway... - Fruitcakenipple
think Luongo type deals....could end up with the last year of a deal paying 1M with a cap hit of 6M but the first few years the team is paying him 10M but with a cap hit of 6M. Makes it easy to buyout contracts at the end and circumvent the cap the first few years.
GM need handcuffs, many are desperate to save their job or have dumb owners |

Variance at 30%? Why even have a variance limit? If they go for 8 year contract limits we will still see cap circumventing deals like the Pronger one. |

because over a 7 year deal with the current system, you can have a couple of years of $1M throw away cap circumventing seasons which they are trying to avoid. I think the old rule was 25% variance year by year no? |

there's actually a cap penalty for buying out the final years of a front loaded contract. Gomez's cap hit would be $4.5M (i think) if he were bought out instead of the 1/3 of his current cap hit |

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't it if the courts find in favour of the PA disclaiming that the contracts would all be null and void and the PA can file for illegal lockout.
If they find in favour of the NHL then we are just back to bargaining again? - stuckey
by then, the season will be long gone and the PA will get tore apart by the NHL.
the only reason the NHL is giving up a little more every time is because the season can still be salvaged. if the season is officially cancelled and the courts rule in favor of the NHL, i'd assume the NHL will have total leverage and take back everything they've slowly given. |

Hello to all my peeps
Wanna make the NHL better? Get rid of the cap, go to an MLB luxury tax on the teams that spend the most.
With no cap, get rid of 6 teams: We don't need 2 Florida teams so the Panthers would go. Don't need 3 California teams so Anahiem must go. Followed by Columbus, Phoenix, Nashville & yes I'm going to get flack for this so go ahead, but the last team to go will be Winnipeg.
Go dowm to 24 teams & no cap. The NHL will be soooo much better.
Mabie the trade deadline can be siginificant again, instead of watching it & 4 hours passes by with no deals, than we get a flurry of 4th line trades |

I want $10 (frank)ing million dollars. I'm not really good at anything but I deserve it as much as those (frank)ing guys who get paid to play a game that we all obsess over. - Canada Cup

I don't know why I come on here every day, still hoping there is progress. Being this close, any other league would have a deal by now. But not the NHL and NHLPA. They set the standard for being greedy, stubborn bumholes. |

It a sad league when the Owners have to make rules in a CBA to protect themselves from themselves... |

Well look back at the history of teams who moved or folded:
Kansas City Scouts,
Cleveland Barons
Atlanta Flames
The Quebec Nordiques
Minnesota North Stars
Original Winnipeg Jets.
The Atlanta Thrashers.
Point is, it aint the first time nor probably the last that fans will unfortunatley lose their teams. Happens in all sports. |

Maybe so. But what if you were one of those fans, and really enjoyed the team you root for. You wouldn't think that contraction was so great.

How do you think al of societal laws work? they are designed to raise the lowest common denominator to an acceptable level. This rules are no different. |

It sure does. Doesn't really change the point though. I guess I'm lucky that I root for a team that isn't going to possibly face that. |

Yeah, the NHL should adopt the worst and most lop-sided system in sports. May as well go back to a 6 team league. - niedermayer27
