Maybe that will force teams to let go players to reach the cap and that may help if they want to start 2 new team.
i dont know, just a thought

Who do you think decertification favours? Will it be better or worse for fans?
I dont understand the implications of it, though I understand what it means. - Gunslinger
It'd be a big legal mess ....if it went all the way down that route ....which it won't.
It's leverage (less so today then yesterday) for the players. |

I think he just wants to be entertained.
I feel the same way. You have to admit, it would be pretty funny, compelling stuff to watch these guys p*ss away their own careers, and then suddenly realize "WTF have I done?".
The acrimony would be priceless. |

Grabs would be a smart move...That contract is a over payment... - Fruitcakenipple
For any other team, buying out Grabbo would be considered.
But you really think the Leafs want to put "get a 1st and 2nd line centre" on their to do list for Summer 2013?
Grabbo is staying. |

So other than Komi, who do you think that will be on the Leafs? - Atomic Wedgie
Honestly, who would you buyout from the Leafs other than Komi.
I am not even convinced they would buyout Komi... a lot would depend on what they felt the needed the money to spend on?
On the other hand, Komi goes beyond this year and if the cap hits 60 or 65, you have to figure there will be *some* good players out there to spend money on.
So, yeah, Komi. I can't think of anyone else though. |

I agree...Never said it would happen but it's a big contract going forward especially for a 2nd line center on a team with Bozak as the #1... |

I'm told with threat of disclaimer gone, NHL digging in on key outstanding issues. Should be another fun filled day. #NHLPA - IrishRage
The threat of the discalimer is not gone.....the players were directed to revote to file the disclaimer...according to reporters on twitter yesterday bettman said if the diclaimer is filed he WILL cancel the rest of the season. |

It's no leverage whatsoever for the players.
Owners completely outmanouvered them.
It's a completely hollow threat - you can see Bettman and Daly chuckling inside when they discuss it.
No union = no guaranteed contracts. It's a non-starter for the players. |

The fact that this was leaked is not a good sign. Someone is using the media and screwing with the process.
Concussions anyone.... re "unknown liability"? - Beatle_john
yeah, I thought the same thing... it was not good that some "details" were suddenly out there. The sides had been pretty tight-lipped the last 2 days.
I think the issues they are apart on are big, like hundreds of millions. For people to say it is just a bunch of give and take left is to make the situation much simpler than it appears...
and really, we don't know everything that is a problem. |

If there is a season, will you leave Hockeybuzz for good?
You aren't funny. You never say anything productive. I don't care that the Red Wings are a good team. It doesn't make you better than anyone here or give you anymore hockey knowledge than anyone else. In fact, you've shown little. Picking on Leafs fans does not count as hockey knowledge. |

I agree, since the summer I've been saying the season will be lost. I don't get the feeling that either side legitimately is in a rush to get a deal done.

The PA blinked.
Their threat did not work. Bringing it back is a joke. The vote isn't even necessary according to some people.
Bettman and Daly are laughing at them over this.
The REAL issue is that the NHL has a strong desire to play a season, at almost any cost. That is the real PA leverage. |

This is classic.
The NHLPA already did not have a leg to stand on with their disclaimer of interest.
And now they elect not to do it, and then threaten to do it again?
Bwaa ha ha ha ha.
Yeah, I guess no judge in the world would view that as a mere negotiating tactic.
Bettman is pissing himself. He's daring them to do it again. |

Give them 10 with an option of 7. Neither side is going to be dumb enough to completely destroy their public image by exercising it anyways. |

This is right from the nhl website article was posted at 2:08pm today
After negotiating until 1 a.m. Thursday, the sides reconvened at the League office at approximately 12:30 p.m. to continue the dialogue about the provisions of a new CBA. The first meeting of the day was a small-group session, which ended at approximately 2 p.m. The sides are expected to get back together again Thursday, although a time has not been determined.

If he can actually get a deal done similar to what we have been reading then he will have done a fantastic job for the players. - Sharks_12

I wouldn't be so confident in predicting the economic landscape 7 years out.
One side or the other may need to open up the CBA after 7 years.
Maybe not such much the players - but the owners need the flexibility.
I still can't figure out why the NHLPA doesn't want as long a deal as possible. |
