The first time I got a bj and the girl swallowed, I asked her how it tasted. She said "warm"

Certainly Bettman is culpable in all of this. But he's not alone. The hardline Owners such as Jacobs, along with Proskauer Rose and Bob Batterman. All in bed. The NHL needs to get their act together. And the first step in my opinion isn't to get rid of Bettman. But it's to get rid of Batterman and Proskauer Rose.

You can't really blame Batterman et al.......... they are doing their job as the same Fehr is doing his.

The owners need a mindset change. The lawyers do as their clients request them to do so

There is no way the players were going to agree to CBA that drops their share to 48% in last three years of deal. That 48% becomes starting point for next CBA.
- Canada Cup

Again well said. Some people just can't grasp that principle. And can only see what the players lost in salary this year. That's chump change.
And how many times did we hear that the last CBA is expired and has no bearing on these negotiations?

They have to lose Bettman as he's the face of distrust for the players...If the owners want to forge a new direction with the players they will have to make that choice...

We'll never know exactly what the owners would have given off of the October offer. They did make it perfectly clear they were willing to negotiate.

If the league can get in an 82 game season, avoid the huge damage to their game, and their bottom line, and not pay 300 million in make whole ...

It is perfectly reasonable to assume the PA could have negotiated a lot.

I just think that you have to look at what October was, what you could have negotiated off of it and how you could have avoided the damage to the game (and your future earnings).

VS...

What has Fehr "won" since October? The cost has been roughly 800 million. I am just saying, he needs to win a LOT more to justify not negotiating off of October.

I think you absolutely can blame Batterman. It is the strategy of Proskauer Rose to lockout players, and to try and crush Unions and to try and to break up the unity of Unions. And that was the NHL's entire strategy in this. And it has backfired on them.

You blame the owners for that, not the lawyers. The owners hired them, they knew exactly what they were hiring when they did so.

Bettman came from that law firm.

The owners want to crush the unions. They hired the law firm that specializes in this type of fight.

I think Bettman is a great tactician and negotiator but a lousy strategist. His grand vision of creating a truly national league across the states was doomed. He never understood that hockey will essentially be a niche/regional sport. On top of that he went after a cap/floor system that was never going to work given economic disparity across the franchises.

I don't think he is just following orders. As Commissioner he sets the direction for the league and gets buy-in from enough of the owners.

Sidney Crosby's time in Pittsburgh could be down to a week. The league has said it will cancel the season by Jan. 11 if no labor deal is reached. Multiple sources close to Crosby said Friday the Penguins' captain would quickly sign with a European team if the season is lost. Crosby did not deny that at practice Friday. "You wait this long, trying to be optimistic," he said. "You can wait another week or however long until we know. What's another week? After that, I'll have a pretty good idea of what I'm going to do. At this point, I'm just worried about playing here." Pat Brisson, Crosby's agent, also did not deny that his client would play for a European team. "Let's see what happens first," Brisson said.

The NHL needs a hockey guy running the show...Bettman isn't that guy...

This is all true.

It is also why I believe when the dust settles he is gone. The big money making clubs are the only clubs who have suffered during the lockouts.

The big boys will demand his head.

Brian Burke.

managed 4 teams. 2 small market, 2 big market teams.

VP at NHL in charge of discipline. Former hockey player.

Contrary to what many Leaf fans believe. Very very smart man.

Yes, this is the type of guy they need...We wouldn't be dealing with trust issues if he was running the league...They players might hate him at times, but the trust bond would be there when labor negotiations take place...
