Read is a great player but is he someone you really want on the 3rd line? The Flyers arent really full of grit in the forward mix as it is.

Ive grown to really like Read, but he is expendable.

Dont know if him and a 1st would get you the #1 pick though.

In my opinion a player like Read who can play in all situations, score goals, check well defensively, and can play on any line, isn't expendable. I'd trade someone like Wayne Simmonds rather then lose Read. Not that I don't like Simmonds. But Read is a better overall player. We'll see how this Season goes.

Read and a 1st would definitely not get the #1 pick.

That's more or less what I'd want to trade Schenn or Couturier. I guessing since they weren't willing to add one to the Weber deal, the Flyers feel somewhat similar.

I haven't seen anything official on that. But I'm going to assume that you can't re-sign a player after buying him out.

I wonder if there is language to prevent sign and trades after buyouts. Could we buy out Briere and Tampa buy out Vinny, we sign Vinny on the cheap, they do the same with Briere and then trade one another straight up? You know Snider will be all for this if it can be done.

It's possible, but with the new limits on deals, and the potential for massive buyouts league wide, I'd be content to wait and see what falls into the market.

Haha that would definately be interesting.

I think Montreal will be creaming their pants at the chance to finally sign Vinny.

Good, young players are a commodity in Phoenix. No way.

The last time there were compliance buyouts, teams were not allowed to re-sign the players bought out for one year.

If Bryz is bought out, there's a handful of good options this summer. Backstrom & Jimmy Howard, off the top of my head

Thanks, that makes sense since everyone would do it. Flyers are in good shape as I suspect most teams will be.

For some players you have to overpay. I would have been willing to do it for Weber with both Cooties and Schenn and I would be willing to do the same for OEL.

Not saying him for Schenn and Coots straight up.... If you can get the chance to find a guy to be a solid #1 for many, many years... It would be hard to turn down for me.

I think that, right now, I'd rather see a solid vet on a short term deal, via trade and then see what the landscape is after the short season.

I'd be more than willing to see if Grossmann or Fedotenko and a pick could land a Roman Hamrlik type guy to get through 2013 and then see what happens this summer.

There's other teams in better shape, but with smarts and creativity, the Flyers should be OK

Forget about OEL, and Bogo, shoot for the stars and figure out a way to get Erik Karlsson.

All this would be a moot point if Weber was here.

Id make no big moves right now unless the Flyers can get an even trade or a steal.

I think for top d-men or guys with that kind of potential the team will have to overpay. I wouldnt do so till summer, until it becomes more clear what the team will do with Kimmo, Bryzgalov and how much money the young kids will want for long term deals.

As I mentioned earlier in the week, he can also cook, clean, and play backup goalie.

Exactly. Who knows what GM's will do in the summer. For all we know, cap space might be a tradeable asset.

I'm wondering if there have been any trades discussed and worked out in principle, and are just waiting for the deal to be ratified to be announced.

It was a total ego move. Rinne and Weber now account for well over 20% of the teams salary. Watch how well that works out for them.

Unfortunately neither did Holmgren. The offseason didn't go according to hoyle that's for sure. Lots of swings and misses. All water under the bridge at this point.

don't think that's very likely, but phoenix has a bunch of good young d prospects. might not be a bad team to look at for a possible trade

Not sure it was ego as much as, how do well sell this team to the fans after we lost two of our three cornerstones?

Had they kept Suter, I think they might not have matched on Weber.
