I wonder if the Flyers would have any interest in guys like Campoli, Foster, or even Randy Jones. Those guys fit the bill for what the Flyers lack much more than the fringe 6/7 guys like Gervais/Lilja.
The blueline depth is compromised with MAB, and Gusty sidelined long term. - PLindbergh31
Seems to me that it would be adding more 3rd pair defenseman to the already formidable collection they already have,

Campoli and Jones fit what they need better than Foster. Foster's not especially mobile, but he's got size and a good shot. Gervais is similar to Jones and Campoli, perhaps not as high a ceiling as them, but not significantly worse.
The trouble is, if a team has to rely on Campoli, Jones or Gervais for more than 15 minutes or so, night in and night out, they're in trouble - Jsaquella
Yep. Foster isn't mobile or a puck mover per say, but he's got that bomb from the point.
I think concerns about the defense core are very legitimate. Schenn adapting to a new city, Meszaros coming back from a major injury probably won't be back to normal until next season. So many variables in a shortened season. One 5 game losing streak can cripple a teams playoff chances. I really have no idea what to expect. I can see this team being in the 4-5 seed range, or missing the playoffs. |

Ive seen enough of randy jones for a lifetime. The fact he cant keep a job is telling to me. - Flyersgod
The pickings are slim in terms of free agents that could come in a fill holes with MAB & Gustafsson out indefinitely.
The only other name that has any appeal is former Flyer Mark Eaton, who is a steady third pair guy when he's healthy. Unfortunately, he's healthy about as often as Guns N Roses releases albums.
Brett Clark and Mike Mottau are similar guys, but who are older and closer to the downside than Campoli & Jones. |

If Meszaros isn't ready to start the season, coupled with MAB and Gustafsson being injured this defense core is very thin. That will have both Gervais and Lilja in the lineup, and an injury away from having a kid like Manning called up. |

In all honesty Peanut, I think I would rather have Jones than both Lilja and Gervais. |

Couldn't we just throw Prongers jock strap on the ice every other shift instead?
That would be much easier to watch then Randy Jones... |

I like the idea of Kimmo playing with Schenn. Ive always been for young kids with solid potential being paired with top veterans. I think Schenn really lacked that in Toronto.
Anyway while I agree with you about the concerns with the d-men, in the end I think no matter where this team goes will depend on Bryzgalov.
I kind of dont expect them to win with the current group, but that "perfect" squad doesnt happen too often. We will see. If they can stay healthy, I think they will be givign us some entertainment come playoff time. |

Jones never recovered from his hip injury. Gervais and Lilja are both serviceable.

It's a crapshoot right now. Not only are teams dealing with injuries, but conditioning from guy to guy is unknown. Reporters in Boston were tweeting that Milan Lucic showed up looking like he did carbo loads and had to keep stopping to catch his breath during the loose drills.
If it's me, I plug in Schenn with Timonen. Let him go out and play his game with the steady veteran and feel his way. Coburn & Grossmann can be a very solid pair, even though neither is a noted puck mover. Meszaros, even at 80%, could be a real asset.
Even with all that, I'd love another mobile guy that can move the puck. I'd love to see them add a vet like Roman Hamrlik to solidify things. |

I'm with you on that.
I almost wish our management would allow us to suck once in a while instead of trading away picks and young players to just get us into the playoffs.
We draft very well in the first round, something i wouldn't mind seeing us do more often! |

Always liked Sekera. Regehr has just lost too much gas for my liking.
As I stated before I dont see the Flyers beating the top teams in the playoffs. I would use this season to further evaluate guys like Meszaros, Brayden Schenn, Cooties, Read, Simmonds, Bryzgalov and Voracek. Where they fit in long term and if the team should keep them in the mix. Or buyout/trade them to improve the back end.
I rather keep all available assets and improve in the summer. To win a cup the Flyers will need another 1-2 top end guys on the blueline (depending on Kimmo).
Improve in the summer, and set a real blueprint for the futurre. That would have been done if the team got Shea Weber but what is done is done. |

Absolutely. I think the Flyers had 11 players playing overseas, so they should bring some momentum into the season. That definitely helps. At least guys have some games under their belts.
Any predictions or forecasts before the season starts really don't mean a thing, especially under these circumstances. |
