Whenever anyone calls you a worthless bag of pig manure, I point out this site.
- Jsaquella

Probably not pointing out the site much then. No one should disrespect the mods in a manner like you siggested.

Bad news. They'd be better off carrying him for as long as possible, or burying him in the minors and take whatever relief they can get. Flyers want to avoid using LTIR and the bonus cushion if at all possible.
- MJL

You obviously know about these things. Why should the Flyers bury Walker at about $850K when they could use his whole $1.7 on LTIR?

Flyers have 1 pick in every round next year.

Capgeek tweets that contracts with years that fall below the minimum salary in a given year will be adjusted to match the minimum in those years and affect the cap hit

Which means Pronger's cap hit will go up.

Because unless they're using that LTIR credit in an immediate way (that is, they acquired a player to put in the lineup for game 1), they're better off burying him and banking the difference in cap space.

Nobody is saying that Bouwmeester can't play better. Or that being put in a better situation, he might be more effective. But that is far different then saying he has potential. You put most good players on a better team, and they have a better chance of excelling. Potential is what a young player has. At least that's how I view it.
- MJL

I agree, which is why I suggest we should trade Read. He had a decent rookie year and low cap hit, but he only has 3 more years until turns 29 and can never improve as a player.

When you are using LTIR, is basically means that you are operating with no Cap space under the Upper Limit. When you use that in conjunction with the Bonus Cushion, it can cause Cap penalties that have to be carried over to the following Season. With the reduced Cap next year, that could be an issue.

I'm not understanding that.

Edit: So they're saying that Pronger's last two years of 525K are going to below the minimum in those years, so those have to be raised.

In the last two seasons of his contract, Pronger's salary will be below the minimum NHL salary limit, so those two seasons will see his salary rise to the minimum in those season, raising the AAV of the contract and pushing his cap hit up

Not variance, but the salaries in the last two years of Pronger's contract are lower than the NHL minimum salary in those seasons under the new CBA

When can teams buyout contracts? Is there a consensus yet as to the two contracts the Flyers buyout?

In the summer. No concensus yet. I'd assume Bryz and Briere are on a lot of lists
