The rules about cap hits on an early retirement are worrisome, but it's not a foregone conclusion that Bryzgalov gets bought out. Even with the cap drop, they will still have some wiggle room. - Jsaquella
Just to refresh everyone's memory I'm pro Bryz, but he's gonna have to play his ass of to stay. So like you said it's not a foregone conclusion. It looks like perhaps the deck is stacked in his favor with the shortened season Lavy will ride him more. But with the question marks on the blueline who knows. I just hope if they do it that guys like Backstrom and Howard are in fact available.

He will have to have a Vezina caliber season and a good playoff run. I think he's better than Howard and Backstrom. I also think he's at least as good as Smith outside the Phoenix system.
The factor becomes will one of those guys sign for less time than Bryz at a smaller hit? That's why I'm not sure it's a forgone conclusion. Backstrom might agree to a shorter deal because of age, but he's also less durable than the others. Smith also has had the injury issue in the past.

I think the writing is on the wall with these amnesty buyouts that alot of people swore up and down wouldn't happen. Now we have two of em Yay two backups again! - JoeRussomanno
i think bryz will be good this year. good enough to get people off his back, and good enough for homer to keep him. at least that's what i'm telling myself, because the opposite would be almost too much to handle after a 3.5 month lockout and seeing bettman's (frank)ing face online 39 times a day.
i thought that was butsy who had a yard sale in the parking lot with the rock salt the other day.... - hammarby31

Nobody is saying that Bouwmeester can't play better. Or that being put in a better situation, he might be more effective. But that is far different then saying he has potential. You put most good players on a better team, and they have a better chance of excelling. Potential is what a young player has. At least that's how I view it. - MJL
Alright, he has the potential to be better. Much like Scott Hartnell was last season. I didn't see those 37 goals coming. I just don't think it's fair to say a player is what he is because of his age, especially when we've seen 2 sides of this player and many.
