I'm just glad you guys are finally admitting how awful the Leafs are.
I actually think that the fans being gluttons for punishment has hurt the team. If the Leafs were treated like any other business, they would be fired. Why would an owner want to spend millions more of his own dollars if he knew he would still make just as much money if he didn't? Why pay to upgrade your product if people still insist on paying top dollar for it no matter how terrible it is? It's the perfect scenario for an owner. If fans would have stopped spending their hard earned money then maybe ownership/management would actually take time and do things the right way instead of trying to "fast track the rebuild."

Worst arguement ever. Because teams lose money in the playoffs, right? That and the fact that there is a salary cap so their spending is limited.

You're also contradicting yourself by saying they didnt spend money because they didnt have to, then go on to say they fast track things by paying for veterans.

I miss the days when trolls came armed with a bazooka instead of cotton balls.

Subban, Galchenyuk, Plekanec and a 1st for LeCavalier. Maybe toss in Paciorrety instead of Plekanec and the Bolts might bite.

Not trolling, just giving my 2 cents. I really do think that if fans would have stopped paying top dollar to watch a losing team then things would have been different.

Where do you see this happening?
Toronto is 10 years w/o a playoff berth, its slowly getting better, but far from fast tracking.

It would have made no difference. The fans didnt force the team to make boneheaded decisions. It wasnt a lack of effort by ownership. It was incompetence.

Yup, things would be different alright. There would be less revenue to share with the small market teams.

That might be a good thing.

Maybe. I just compare their situation to other teams where they rebuild the right way. If there wasn't such pressure in Toronto then I wonder if Burkey makes the Kessel trade etc.

The media puts as much pressure on the team as the fans. And whats wrong with pressure? It just shows people care.

It wasnt the fans who refused a rebuild. Majority welcomed it.

? I thought he was quoted as saying he was going to fast track a rebuild or something similar to that. Which is what he tried to do with the Kessel trade.

I would prefer a full scale rebuild as a fan as well. I would be pissed if I were a Flames fan right now. You know they aren't going to win a Cup any time soon. They'll be a bubble playoff team at best. Why not get the rebuild started and trade Iginla, Kiprusoff etc.

I think he tried to. Alot of it was miscalculation too though. What I mean by that is he believed that with Kessel, there wasnt much chance the team would be as bad as they ended up being. Massive error.

To his credit, since then, he done very little to sacrifice the future and most fans are thankful for that. In fact he has traded for 1sts and prospects in quantities never seen before in Toronto. Unfortunately, none of them have elite talent or potential, but kudos for the effort and the direction he has taken the last 2-3 years.

I really dont get what the Flames are doing either. My best guess is that they are going all in now before Iggy and Kipper retire or want out. Being reactive instead of proactive is a poor game plan.
