Not really making a serious comparison cause every team is different, BUT, the Kings started their rebuild, the same year the isles did. They also hired a guy named Dean Lombardi who the isles interviewed, but decided to go with a seasoned general manager in Garth Snow. - kindlyrick
The Kings would be a great example of doing it through the draft, and then making some moves. |

You know they are rebuilding... you always seem to miss that point.
5 year plan... restock the team with young players, then make some moves using the prospects as bargining chips. - jimmc7722
they have been rebuilding forever and here is the thing about rebuilding that everyone needs to get is that when you rebuild you are supposed to get better each year. The Islanders are not even close to what a 5 year rebuild should be they are stuck in the year 2 phase and will be until the powers that be get the H E double hockey sticks out of here!! |

Personally who cares we all know what is going to happen we will be battling for the lottery for a great pick this year and possibly next year. Until the move to Brooklyn we will always be the same cheap team. Dont make a difference if a player wants to play here or not.
I rip this team more than anything but I am not goign to give credit to Snow, Capuano, or any player until I see some improvement with this team and so far I have seen basically nothing. - kasperrko
I've never heard you this optimistic. |

I think you bring up an interesting point, although we all know Garth is going nowhere. To me, after 5 years of a complete rebuild.......if the isles dont make the playoffs this year, Garth should be terminated. The proof is in the pudding... - kindlyrick
Im not a Snow supporter, but this year is a pass for Snow, only bc of the shorten season, plus the decision to move to Brooklyn was announced during the lock-out. So now bc of Wang having a destination for the Isles moving forward, I believe next year, they will spend money on this team. Snow doesnt have enough time, plus a weak FA class this year,
next year is put up, or get out....plus keep in mind, its mostly Wang, and will he spend next year????? |

See and i dont trade Fransy ever. That guy should be in an isles sweater for as long as shootouts matter. He's money in the bank, and those pts come in handy for a team who goes on 20 game losing streaks.... - kindlyrick
frans nielsen is untouchable??????
and you want garth to trade what exactly??? who else is untouchable? |

Question for you...I haven't seen Bridgeport this year but if you're correct that the goaltending is fine, would you trade Nabokov to Chicago for Niklas Hjalmarsson or Nick Leddy? - kear20

Trade Nielsen!? You must be kidding! Nielsen is one of the best 3rd line centers in the game. If Strome is ready to go he'll play second line center and Frans can play his natural 3rd line center role. 3rd line centers like Frans Nielsen win championships, trading him is the most idiotic thing I've ever heard. - JTMM9126
hahahaha...welcome to the show. you certainly jumped into the deep end.
yes....trade nielsen.
centers would be JT/Strome/Cizikas/Reasoner (notice bailey being slotted in at wing) ....nielson, a "3rd line center, for a young top 4 defensemen??? who do you think the blackhawks would want in exchange for a young, inexpensive, top 4 d-man??
youd be an idiot not to make the deal, especially with the depth at center the islanders have... |

I disagree with you... but that is normal.
If anybody should be happy with the team sucking it should be you.
This way your Penguins get an easy win everytime they play the Isles, and Crosby can put up some big #'s to pad his scoring title this year!!!
Ohhh... I forgot you and Crosby don't get along. You beat him up...

Still no one talking about the Taxes.. Vis is making 2 mill this year. After taxes and whatever he has to escrow he is probably looking at less than 1 mill. Compared to staying home.. getting probably what? 2.5 or 3 mill? 12% tax rate... no escrow... of course he wants to stay. |

Michael Grabner has an abdominal tear. There is no timetable on his return, and he hasn’t played in Austria since November 30th. .. ugh
Hamonic been out with a concussion since December.. ugh.
Nabby has not played during lockout.. DP is well DP.
this team is effed... unless a big move happens.. yeah right. wake me for the draft. |

I'm almost believing LV when he says he'd rather finish off his career at home. Let's face it, if he doesn't report we can toll his contract but he's not coming back. At 36, if he's happy at home now, he's not returning for the last year of a contract at 37 next year to be able to resign somewhere else in the NHL. If the KHL upholds their agreement with the NHL we'll get him for part of this season and move him at the deadline.
It would have been a good pick up for a full season, for a shortened season it's not much help. I dislike his decision but it is what it is. I would prefer Snow make a deal for someone like Leddy if he's looking for a relatively inexpensive option, but I think it'll be Martinek.
This is a big year for several players - Okposo, Bailey, Boyes just to name three. Any regression from anyone and we finish dead last. Unless at least a couple of players overachieve and everyone else plays as they can, we won't even have a shot at the playoffs. Snow needs to add a big piece to this team.

Vis.... I am just as unhappy as everyone else, but I understand it on many levels. I am trying to maintain that it is not just "Islanders" issue. He is going to make far less this year than last in his current contract. KHL was paying him a lot more. They TAXES (which I can not believe noone in media, blogs, etc. has mentioned) are a much much much better scenario in Russia. I think they have a flat tax of 12% or something like that.. compared to God Knows what we have here now for the over 1 mill guys. He has to put a Lot in Escrow over here... If there is any way possible he can stay in KHL and play he is going to ... I will not take it personal b/c I would do the same. He will make MUCH MUCH MUCH more NET money. (p.s.- so will Kovy) - niteislander
The taxes in America are like 39%, on $1M.....unless you have an accountant/financial planner (which, if you're making a million and you don't, you are a moron), in which case they are more like 14%.....plus, when you invest money in stuff in America, it's less likely to disappear......and "Knuckles" doesn't show up at your house expecting his 20% of your pay, to make sure nothing "happens to your family". We also have stuff in America....like paved roads, food that isn't poisoned, charter airplanes that don't crash every couple of weeks, because someone actually inspects the thirty five year old engines to make sure they're still running (a/k/a "burdensome regulations")....stuff like that....their money doesn't "all just go to buy crack for black people", unlike what a lot of people in this country think.....but I digress.....

I dont wanna give up 4 picks, but id part with 2 of em. He's already becoming one of the better offensive dman in the league. He can skate, pass, shoot, and isnt afraid to throw his body. I like cocky when its warrented. The isles in the next few years are gonna be mostly kids who played juniors in canada.......Subban will get along just fine. To me its really that simple..........get PK Subban. - kindlyrick
I want a defenseman who opponents are afraid to play against. We have far too many of the other kind here, which is the problem- not that some of them don't have talent, but you need that one guy who instills fear into the other team's top line.....and we don't have him.....and haven't, in...like, forever....

There are no passes.......sorry. Its 5 years in a row and the isles haven't come close to the playoffs. There is no argument. |
