I would hire this guy to run my team in a minute.....Toronto was an aberration for him, guaranteed. Toronto is an aberration for everyone, because they still try to build a team the way the big money franchises used to build them before the LAST work stoppage (let's just go and sign everyone who is still alive), and that doesn't work anymore. Once he's back in a sane situation, he'll have success again. Of course, we won't hire him for obvious reasons, and no, "we already have a GM," is not one of the reasons I'm thinking of....

He had a lot of money to work with and still couldn't produce a winner. I would pass...he's a good standup guy for the media...wouldn't get along with Wang.

John Tavares, New York Islanders
A shortened season will act as a leveling device, which means teams that are still maturing, like the New York Islanders, will have an improved shot at a playoff berth. So it must be reassuring to GM Garth Snow that Tavares was tearing it up for Bern, the second-ranked team in the Swiss Elite League, with 42 points in 28 games.

I believe he started his "five year rebuild" the same year Snow did...if you're in favor of Snow getting to the end of his fifth year before showing any results, shouldn't Burke?

so since there is one thing in common with both GMs therefore they should be treated the same way?

No. My point is to jimmc, who is withholding his judgment on Snow until his five-year plan is past the five-year point, as he said yesterday, but judging Burke before his plan is up. Consistency.

Rick DiPietro is optimistic about his chances to make an impact in net for the Islanders after years of injury problems."I feel great. I’ve had such extensive surgeries, they say it takes a couple of years after that serious of surgery to actually feel back to yourself. I think a lot of the stuff was me rushing back too soon, or just having other stuff go wrong because you compensate for surgery that really hadn’t quite yet come back all the way," he said. "I’ve had some time off to get ready and get prepared, and I’m looking forward to it." DiPietro played just one game in 2012 with SC Riessersee in Germany. Evgeni Nabokov enters camp as the Islanders' incumbent starter, but its worth tracking DiPietro's progress in the coming weeks.

Ricky again on the podium proclaiming his good health. Every year he feels great and every year.... Well why bother?

Same old same old.

I'll cheer my a$$ off for the Isles again this year. I'll even take my kids to a couple of games if they come down south. But looking at this team realistically. I see us rolling the dice for the First overall pick in the 2013 Draft once more.

(BTW is it to early to start talking Trade Deadline and Draft Day????)

Only the Isles could have a 3 1/2 month delay in starting the season and already have injury problems!!!!

Burke tried to jump the gun on his five year rebuild.

Made a few trades that didn't work out.

Actually Toronto fans wanted him to stockpile... like the Isles are, Kings did, Chitown did, Pitts did.

But I think there is more to this story than they are telling us.

New ownership, Burke's big ego, sprinkle in some personal stuff...etc...

I don't hate Burke... but I don't think he is half as good as Leaf fans would lead you to believe.

Some loved him... some hated him.

Great! Let the debates begin.

Who is the top dog in this yrs draft?

Is it a deep draft?

Damn it's great to be talking about breaking up the Isles and NHL Draft again!

OH My Gosh!

I knew someone would jump all over this.

But...

This came way to quickly.

I was being sarcastic.

My quote was tongue in Cheek and you took the bait and ran with it.

Of course I know the injury problems around the league. Players have been signing to play all over the world. $h!t happens. Guys go down.

I was exaggerating the yearly problems the Isle have with injuries.

Thanks for the specifics though. There are a few players that I wasnt aware of who are hurt.

It was pretty obvious SCLI was exaggerating when he made that comment. Only a tool would go and look up the NHL injury report and then post it to contradict the post. So yes I stand by my Tool remark.
