totally agree...lockouts have huge repercussions; both tangible and intangible. - LetsGoIsles
The more i read about Visnovsky, the more i dislike his make up. I love how for years he's made millions over here in the states, but now that he's at the end of his contract (half of the last year), and the money isnt as good, all of a sudden he doesnt feel the need to honor it. Its gutless..........i'd never let him play in an isles sweater, and if i were the isles i'd take legal action.

Visnovsky is a p!ss face. What a douche. Jeez, man. Be professional and honor your contract! You tried to get out of coming to LI already and lost. Get over it! He acts as if its a punishment to be sent to the NHL to play hockey for $2M or so for four months. He acts as if LI is hell on Earth. |

the comments I saw were posted on islanderspointblank.com:
“NHL’s opinion of itself is so high… OK, let them get drunk on their greatness. We’ll see how many Euros look our way… Our league will act according to our own and international rules. If players decide to stay, we will help them… [Not going to Sochi] will be a big financial loss for NHL.. If they decide differently, that’s their problem.”
almost seemed like the KHL president got drunk and spoke to the media, although I'm sure it's a result of google translator.
Reinhart from the little I saw of the WJC was unimpressive. I know his points are low this year in juniors but from what I remember he's not playing first line power play minutes as his junior coach runs with 5 forwards on that unit. I did hear that they were happy with his defensive play in juniors but all reports I've seen suggest he needs to improve his footspeed in order to play at a higher level. I haven't seen enough of him myself to say one way or another and I'm certainly not a scout. I do think with all suggested info that the Isles have no business rushing him this season, it just doesn't sound like he's even remotely ready.
Strome is a much tougher call and will depend how he is at camp.

Reinhart's WJC was horrible. He looked slow, bad decisions with the puck, uneasy and could never settle the play down and lead a successful breakout. Strome, he's up he's down. There's really no rush, it's not like we're ready for a cup run.
Reinhart and Strome shouldn't crack the lineup until 2014-2015 season. |

No Seth Jones. Not at #1. - eichiefs9
Not to really get into this cause its a ridiculous argument, but how do you say no seth jones at #1? Are you one of those people who read that Nate Mackinnon is a great player and should go number 1? Look at Seth Jones size, skill and pedigree........those three reasons alone, have him in a league of his own.

based on the updated comments from the KHL president, kiss LV goodbye. He's not coming back.
So the Isles D:
streit
amac
carkner
hamonic
donovan/ness/martinek?/reinhart?
fugly. Get us some help Garth. That's not gonna win many games.
I expect that Reinhart gets sent back to juniors, Martinek is signed and donovan/ness end up filling the 6 and 7 spots. As soon as Martinek is injured, Ness and Donovan both in the lineup. - Isles_since_6

Here's your list of defensemen taken at #1:
Rick Pagnutti
Denis Potvin
Greg Joly
Rick Green
Rob Ramage
Gord Kluzak
Roman Hamrlik
Ed Jovanovski
Bryan Berard
Chris Phillips
Erik Johnson
Since you will inevitably ask me what my point is...it's way harder to gauge how good a defensemen is going to be at that age than it is to judge a forward. I don't want to spend a 1st overall pick on a guy who "might" be an elite defensemen, when we could draft a forward that will likely have a better chance of becoming elite.
So no, I was not one of those people that "read MacKinnon should be number 1 so that's my opinion." |

not saying I'm an NHL scout or anything but I've been a ticket holder for the Ice Doggs for a while and I've watched him play alot of hockey and I don't think he's ready. Dougie Hamilton is more ready than he is. Strome has tremendous talent at the junior level but he's not as dominant as he needs to be for him to take that next step.
If Strome was NHL ready he would be a force, an x factor but he isn't. Strome fits right in with his team and doesn't stand out, no more than Hamilton. As I stated in a previous post, there's no rush. The Isles are years away from anything significant. I would rather Strome get his shot in the AHL for an entire year and maybe get a taste once and a while as a call up. |

Thats cool man, and i totally respect your opinion on here. But, my thing is, you have a kid in Seth Jones who is 18 years old, 6 ft 3, 200 lbs, who's dad was in the NBA. He's already a standout on the ice, with his skill and add to that the fact that he's only gonna get bigger. To me, you've got a special player. The isles have that special player up front......that if they had the chance to pick first overall, to me, Seth Jones is the guy.

I get it, I'm not trying to say you're stupid for wanting him or anything. Just that I'm going with the historically more reliable route of drafting "high-end" forward talent over "high-end" defensive/goaltending talent, because it's typically easier to project.
Erik Johnson had that size when he was drafted too. He's a good NHL defenseman, but nowhere near worthy of a 1st overall pick. He was drafted ahead of J. Staal, Toews, Backstrom (Caps), Kessel, and Giroux. In fairness, 21 other teams passed on Giroux too. I'd take any of those guys in a heartbeat ahead of Johnson. |

To me, the fact that his dad was a professional basketball player is completely irrelevant. He's his own athlete. |

Its absolutely not irrelevant.........watch him skate. His father was 6'8 250 lbs. This kid is only 18 and is still gonna grow for a few more years. Say he reaches 6'5, and has his athleticism.......he's gonna be a force. Not to mention his old man had him get strength skating lessons at joe sakics suggestion. We can agree to disagree, but this Seth Jones is gonna be a special player in the NHL. |
