Absolutely. Flyers pipeline is pretty much barren due to picks being thrown away for marginal players. I know the fanbase is growing impatient waiting for a Cup, hell I'm at the top of the List, but this team has to start building through the draft. - PLindbergh31
The one thing this lockout did for me was focus on the CHL & just how deep this draft is & that's not even counting the top draft eligible players from Europe.
Very good time to get some depth. |

Yup. As it stands right now the Flyers have a pick in every round in the 13' Draft correct? |

You guys keep talking about Burke. To me, it is as if the Cleveland Browns fired their GM. Much ado about nothing regarding a loser franchise.
What is more interesting, BTW, is the Nutrisystem chick on the upper right part of the screen. Does HB have targeted ads? - Daman
Burke acquired many of the keystone parts of the current Vancouver Canucks teams that have been pretty successful and was the GM of the Anaheim team that won the Cup in 2007.
His credentials are such that his firing (while probably already coming because of new Maple Leaf ownership) is going to cause ripples because the guy has had some success in the league. |

I hope the last major transaction he made in Toronto doesn't turn out to be his best. I'm fearful it may. |

The Flyers have one of the youngest core groups in the entire NHL....
G, Voracek, Simmonds, Couts, SchennX2, MaB, Gusty, Wellwood, Rinaldo... These guys are ALL under 25.
G, Couts, MaB, Gusty, Wellwood, Rinaldo.. all our own picks. Add is Laughton, Ghost, Cousins...
Then we traded a few of our former picks, Jeff Carter, JvR, and Mike Richards, and we got: L&B Schenn, Simmonds, Voracek, Couts...
We dont have to be too worried about the pipeline, bec it really hasnt been as bad as ppl wanna make it out to have been. |

I'm very concerned with the lack of young D-men. Other than Schenn, the Flyers don't have a guy 25 or under that is anything to write home about. This has to be addressed in the near future. |

I agree that it should be focused on, but that doesnt mean it can never be addressed. In about 2 years we are gonna have a surplus of forwards...
If Schenn, Couts, G, Voracek, Simmonds, etc all continue you are gonna be log jammed.. you could always move on of those guys.
I agree, though, that we should probably try to get a few decent d-picks in the next few drafts.... |

He should have walked up to the podium and announced his resignation. That would have been a good start. |

True. I'm hoping the Flyers can acquire a stud in free agency. I know that will be difficult, but it's more likely than one being drafted. Trade is probably the most likely scenario. |

Leddy projects to be a very good top 4 defenseman, maybe even a solid number 2 defenseman. That won't be cheap.
My guess is Read, Laughton & a good pick(1st or 2nd rounder)might be the ballpark - Jsaquella
I'd do it if it's a 2nd round pick. |

That's great, except those guys will be due for raises and that's where you need the guys on ELC to make contributions.

Yup. This is why Read will be traded mid-season. It will anger fans, but the front office will realize that we have offensive depth with a depleted backline. Pair that with the fact that Read will be due for a raise next year, and it will make sense to send him packing for some defensive help. The depressing part will be the fact that the return for him will likely be a 5th/6th d-man that is past his prime.

don't worry. i just read a rumor on twitter that says the flyers are interested in luongo. that will fix everything.
carchidi says there's no truth. normally i would agree, but sam also said there are shootouts in the playoffs, so....

He had to read the apology off of a script. He had a chance to right a few wrongs and at least try to be human, speak from the heart. Nope |

If Bryz and Bobby Lou get bought out at the end of the season I jump all over Luongo for the right deal. |

I'd think Read is that entry level bang-for-your-buck kind of player we'd want to hang onto rather than trade for pennies on the dollar, especially if we're looking to deal from the forward wealth to shore up the blueline. |

They have a lot of options. They could very easily trade SImmonds or Voraceek before Read. They could trade picks. They haven't even started camp yet & people(not you) are jumping off bridges. |

I have to look at history and see what the price of a 5/6 D man past his prime has been at the trade deadline. And it hasn't been a quality young player. The Flyers got Grossmann for a 2nd and a 3rd. And they got Kubina for a meager prospect in Kalinski and a 2nd. So the player you describe, can certainly be had cheaper then giving up Matt Read. If they trade Read for a defenseman, it better be for more then a 5/6 defenseman past his prime. We already have a surplus of that player.

Steve Eminger cost us the 1st we got for RJ Umberger. Pick that scab.
