I guess that means he'll be a Flyer within a week. The all-caps 'NOT' gave it away.
See: Flyers and Leafs talkign trade, NOT Schenn for JVR. - Phenom
But, but EK said:
"Every reporter has teams they are tighter with than others...the flyers, the NHL team I live closest to,have been season credentialed to for 8 years now, and have even done my own TV show for....the Flyers are in my wheelhouse...as many of you know from following the Flyers stories I have been lucky to be out front on over the years."

It appears that the Philadephia media is rallying to protect Holmgren against charges that he has acted prematurely. Nobody really cares but he is not allowed to discuss a trade until the MOU is ratified by the players.
But, after all the blowback. James Duthie, a pretty aerious TSN reporter, has stated that "despite the denials" the Flyers have asked about Luongo.
In a situation like this it is always wise to go with the hard news reporter. As Durhie says the Flyers "may not get him." But, there is a good deal of smoke. |

I wouldnt mind two starting goalies. With our luck bryz will go on a monster shutout streak, then break his neck and retire. I dont think there is another team that has had more career ending injuries then us. |

Could we be seeing a three team trade? Philly sends picks/prospects to vancouver, luongo goes to the leafs, gardiner/frattin come back to philly? That would fit based on all the reports of philly and the couv talking luongo. It would make sense for eks "source" saying phillys not in on luongo, they just need to know what they have to give to get him to move. It solves some d issues for the flyers.
It seems less crazy than trading for an additional suspect goalie with an anchor contract, and all the "reports" start to make sense. - jxt216

E5000, Lu4goals will be in Philly come training camp. Bryz stays in Russia or gets bought out. Book it. - MisterC
Bryz is already back from Russia, and no one can get bought out this season.. book it |

I fail to see how giving up two, or even one rumored Dman for a goalie that is on the backend of his career, is advantageous.
I hope and pray that it's a squashed rumor. One spotty goalie is enough. Even if they buy out Bryz, replacing him with an overpaid Luongo and losing a dman or two in the process get you nowhere. |

So TSN has it on good authority that they DID ask about him...and you're saying they didn't...and you're really smart so.... I'm stumped |

This.. from everything I understand, he would need to play the rest of this season before he could be bought out. And carrying him, Luongo, and a resigned Leighton makes no sense... on top of losing whatever you would in the trade for him. |

Everything that comes out of Homers mouth in regards to trades and injuries is a lie.

A few points, Ek.....If the Flyers are indeed sour on Bryz then this makes a TON on sense ....probably why the Flyers have called....They have the $ for a buyout ... The fact that TO appeared to be holding out for VCR to basically give him away, thats a smart phone call by Homer.
On your last comment on Burke....To many mistakes in his 4 and a half years.....NO PLAYOFFS....on record as saying he won't go after RFA's or sign long term contracts....his own xmas trade imbargo....
Yes he made a great trade in Beachiman for Lupul and Gardinar....but to trade 2 first rounders + to get Phil Kessel was rediculous....beyond the fact that turned out to be Taylor Seguin and Dougie Hamilton....why he wouldn't put a Lottery pick Clause in there is anyones guess.
This is a results business and he failed on all accounts....my question is ....how the hell did he keep the job for that long ? |

"I firmly believe the Leafs made an enormous mistake in firing Brian Burke."
Wrong EK! When you are the GM of Toronto or Montreal, it is not acceptable to have not made the playoffs for 4 years. He has more bad moves then good and finally, ask yourself, does he represent the image of the ownership group. Obviously not! He is constantly fighting with the media. His bosses are media! Bye Bye Burke. He is actually best suited in Boston or Philly. To bad for him they are happy with their GMs. |

How would it make a ton of sense? Trade one goalie with question marks for another with question marks AND a higher cap hit?
Flyers need D first and foremost and Homer knows that. Not to mention keeping cap room open to re-sign Giroux, Couturier and B Schenn. That said, I dont doubt he kicked the tires on this to see if there was some sort home run deal he could execute. |

I'm not sure all that a buyout entails... But, I think it would be to much to do this year. With the new agreement, it could be possible next year.
Homer probably called Van, and said how about swapping Bryz for Luongo. And, they said no. If there was some interest, Homer could have thrown in some picks.
The deal, may not have been such a bad deal for either side. If Van really wants to dump him, and can't get rid of him... Bryz for Luongo might be an option. Van is still stuck with a goal who's play is up and down. The cap hits are similar, with fewer years on Bryz's salary (less money for a buyout next year). The Flyers get a better goalie with a real shaky playoff record.

Luongo is more consistant than Bryz. Sure he's got question marks, but maybe Homer thinks they can work with Luongo's questions marks. With Bryz, you're just not sure who's going to show up.
The higher cap hit is ony 300K, aka peanuts. Jody Shelley's 1.1M comes off the books next year. And, if the Flyers are thinking about using their 2 one-time only buyouts next year on Bryz - why not swap and try Luongo. They got the money to buy out either players contract. |
