I think he played exactly how most young players perform over their first few seasons. Look at G's first two seasons. Look at Kessel, Joe Thornton, the Sendin bros., Marrian Hossa... most guys dont just jump into the league and play like superstars.. it takes a few years to really hit your stride.. JvR has played 2 and a half seasons.. watch by year 3-4...
I dont put much stock in the whole, he was a 2nd overall pick. It was known right then that it wasnt a power draft class. - jak521
I agree 100%. I think we've gotten used to (a minority of) players coming into the league a being All-Star caliber/impact players from the get-go. Players like Crosby, Ovechkin, Stamkos, Malkin, Eberle, Tavares & Karlsson came into the league and were dominant within the first 1-3 years. I think a lot of us forget that some guys do blossom late, and that that's not just a myth. The guys you mentioned above are perfect examples of this. |

You were on this site back then, werent you??
People were fantasy trading Giroux left and right... I wish Butsy were here.. he and I always had a few good laughs at that.. His first season people expected him to make the Flyers out of camp... He didnt. In fact he spent half the season in the AHL. Then he came to the Flyers the next season and had a so-so start, got hot around the holidays and cooled off over the 2nd half of the season. His third year was his breakout season. |

Ive been here a good long while. I recall always hearing this idiot and that idiot give up on a player after 10 games. That is life in here, but I never take them seriously. I let MJL handle the position of Jackass Whisperer. I don't have the patience for it.

I was very disappointed to hear Brian Burke was fired yeaterday because his last major trade was the JvR /Schenn deal. I feel Burke wanted that trade more then the flyers did, but of course I can't confirm or deny. I prefer van Reimsdyk. I would be more excited about Luke if he could at least play the point on the second power play unit. I am however happy to have both brothers, just not at the cost that we got Luke for. In my opinion, we should have got more. |

Hard to tell fans to be patient, when Flyers Management shows little patience. Granted, it's been a long time since the Flyers have won, and they have an owner who just turned 80 years old. He's a passionate guy and wants to win, but constantly trading draft picks away year after year on quick fixes is apropos to a dog chasing his tail. |

We all know Homer is not afraid to throw an offer sheet at a RFA, So why not shoot one at Del Zotto? Rags are going to be in cap hell very soon and are already with likely Redden having to eat cap space up this season. Del Zotto is a young dman who has a high ceiling of potential still. You send him a solid offer, either Rags have to match and be in cap hell even more or they dont match. would it hurt us that much giving away our 1st picks to rags when they will probably be late rounders in the first anyway?
Just a thought..
ie. I would love to see us screw over the Rags anyway |

Del Zotto is not worth an offer sheet of that magnitude, IMO. |

Patience has always been lacking in Philadelphia. We want to move a guy as soon as they have one misstep. Take Ryan Howard. I knew of countless people who wanted him gone before he was even called up in 2005 because he was an older prospect and still had Jim Thome to win a spot from. Of course now no one wants him now but he ended up winning a ROTY, MVP and help lead the Phils to a WS title. |

Flyers are in the same boat of Cap hell in the future. What kind of offer sheet would it take to pry Del Zotto away from the Rags? |

Apparently there is a rumor that the Flyers would be the third team in a 3 team trade that would send Luongo to Toronto. That makes much more sense. |

That's the offer sheet compensation for a $5M/year deal.
Not saying they will/should, but it's the only way to get him without moving one of the 2 young centers...if you want him. |

No I saw someone that I trust retweet something about it. It was not speculation but more of a "I heard from a reliable source" kind of thing. |

I'll be the first to admit that I am not on the "Bryz will return to form bandwagon" for this season. I think he will have problems just like last season. I'm not rooting for this to happen, but I am not holding hope that he will be All-Star Bryz anytime soon. That being said, any sort of deal for Luongo at this point is absurd. His contract is just as bad in length as Bryz's. I detest both of their contracts, I don't think either of them will play them out.
Let Vancouver continue to ask for the moon when it comes to trying to trade him to Toronto and Florida. Good for them if they get a decent return, and drop that horrid contract off their books nice and cleanly.
IF we make it to the summer and Luongo has not been traded, and Bryz did not perform up to expectations again, then both get bought out. At this point, I am in favour of making a contract offer for Luongo, perhaps even a similar cap hit to his current contract, but only for 5 years max.
IF he were to be bought out and become a UFA, you have to figure Florida would then offer him the best option, as he seems to want to go there more than any other place. They could offer him the same contract, maybe more money with shorter term. Have Markstrom back Lou up for a few years.
I see Loungo in a Flyers jersey by the end of summer 2013 as likely as I can see Bryz in a Jets jersey. Crazier things have happened, and I'd be on board with Lou as a UFA signing, but definitely not via trade. Vancouver would have to give us assets to take on that contract, IMO.

We are headed into a superior draft. Offers that cost a good draft pick are not wise.

You started talking about Bryz first, then pulled the 'ol switcheroo.
So since you started the rumor, what's the rest of it? |
