I honestly don't know if they would or not. Right now, Carlson and Staal, who I think are compables, signed for less than $4M under the old CBA. I'm not saying Mtl wouldn't or won't, just another avenue to explore. I know you don't mean it, but sometimes you can really come off as super smug.

Apparently there is a rumor that the Flyers would be the third team in a 3 team trade that would send Luongo to Toronto. That makes much more sense.

Montreal isn't letting Subban walk for the return of a 1st and a 3rd. That is my point in a nutshell. So it's not a realistic avenue to explore.

However, stay at home, shut down defensemen generally lack the value of big, scoring line wingers. There's cases, like with Zdeno Chara & Scott Stevens where the shut down defenseman is viewed with his true value, but in each of those cases there was offensive upside that enhanced the value.

I'd argue yes.

Especially with the Flyers sharing a conference with the likes of Crosby, Malkin, Nash, Gaborik, Kovalchuk, Tavares, etc... if you can't make those guys miserable, it's hard to win with regularity against them, no matter how many goals you score.

Nashville was willing to match the Flyers offer sheet to Weber even though in all likelyhood did not offer a similar contract before the Flyers did. Obviously Montreal wants to keep him at a lower price than they're ultimately willing to go with, but they'll go higher than what they've offered for sure

If it were a team like the Rangers, who were seriously up against their spending limit, I think it MIGHT be more feasible, but even then.. its not the greatest of ideas. Plus.. offer sheeting two players in the same year isnt the best way to make your job easy..
