The habs can't risk gomez getting injured. If he did they would not be able to buy him out next year.

As for Galechenyuk, there is not point really in having him now. Why waste a year of his entry level deal for half a season. We also have our top 3 centers in Plekanec, Desharnais, and Eller. Useless to put him on the 4th line.

When you're giving him 100% of his contract value, why can't you buy a guy out if he's injured? no loss to the player... If it was at 2/3s then yea, it makes sense but not full value on the deal. Hell, give him full medical coverage for the duration of the deal as well...

I'm surprised the habs would do this to be honest. As for your question, I agree with you, seems like a poopty thing to do, but it's part of the CBA, same way guys who were injured got paid during the lockout.
