Thats a phucking joke if they suspend those two. They were locked out. They werent under contract at that point..

There's a fine line between begging Visnovsky to come over and simply enforcing your legal rights to toll his contract and exhaust your legal options. I don't think the Isles have "begged" Visnovsky to come over eithier literally or through their actions. They traded for a player. It cost a second round pick. the player f**ked them and decided he didn't need to honor his contract. The Isles bought him a plane ticket, called him to ask him to come over. He has since refused.

The Isles haven't done anything else to "beg" Visnovsky to come over. No repeated plane tickets purchased. No sending over a group of team reps to coerce him to come back with them. All the Isles have done is answer the media's questions about the situation.

Again, I personally think the Isles have handled the situation perfectly, a rare feat for this managment team. I don't think its desperate to toll a guy's deal if he refuses to report when you gave up a second round pick for him. The Isles simply can't walk away from this and let Visnovsky win. They'll look worse in the long run by doing that than by simply tolling his deal and waiting for Visnovsky to come to his senses.

She's hot, but i get annoyed when she starts using their hockey nicknames. Like when she refers to Kevin Weekes she calls him Weeksy......

Why so quick to throw in the towel on the season.........year 5 of the rebuild and you're already looking at year 6? At what point does this team draw a line in the sand and say..........we're gonna try and win and compete with the best?


When i was listening to the XM hockey station they were talkin about Burke and how they thought it was weird that he was fired 4 years in. They said everyone knows that it takes 5 years for a rebuild. Well we're in year 5 and to me the time should be now to start making playoff moves....

someone can mark this one down....i think this is a HUGE year for some of the current isles; bailey, ko, grabner, mcdonald....this is a put up or shutup season for them. after this season, i expect garth to be aggressive both on the trade market and the free agent market.

the isles will have A LOT of things working in their favor during this off season. theyll have the arena issue locked up, theyll be a year closer to bk, theyll have some of their prospects ready go, theyll have other teams players being bought out and teams fighting to stay below the salary cap therefore flooding the FA market, after this coming season, if garth doesnt do something to get a big name, THATS when ill start getting on his/wangs case.

Im pretty sure Visnovsky said that both Weight and Snow called him to convince him to come to the US. Guess it depends on your definition of begging.....but to me, once his agent said he wasnt coming.....if you're calling him directly with both GM and assistant GM, thats kinda begging.

At the same time they did get hurt playing elsewhere and you could make the case as to why should I pay them if they got hurt playing in a different league. I'm just curious to see if they would have suspended JT if that happened?? My guess is no way

Finley is rather large defender whose attributes and shortcomings are fairly straightforward; he fights, hits people, stays at home and skating could use work. With Hickey, it’s a tad more complex. Hickey is a fourth overall pick who has spent the past four seasons in the AHL. So why did the Kings put him in a position to get plucked off the waiver wive and why didn’t he make the Kings? For answers to those questions, we turn to the people who know the Kings better than just about anyone, the Kings blog the Royal Half:

It was June 22nd, 2007 when myself and the 100 or so other fans at the LA Kings Draft Party turned to each other and said “Who the eff is Thomas Hickey?” When he was announced as the 4th Overall pick by the LA Kings even Pierre McGuire had a hard time knowing where this defenseman played his junior hockey. (Just kidding… kinda.)
Even thought Hickey was viewed as a long-term project by the Kings scouts it was a total “off the board” pick to be 4th Overall that year. Hickey did show some promise after his draft year playing for the Seattle Thunderbirds and even Captained the 2009 Canada WJC team that won Gold. Heading to the AHL in 2009, Hickey struggled through injuries during his 1st two seasons at Manchester but since then has been a regular Top 4 defenseman for them.

Thomas Hickey has been given the chance to make the big club out of the last two training camps. But in 2010 Jake Muzzin and Alec Martinez made the team instead and in 2011 Slava Voynov impressed the Kings enough to eventually trade Jack Johnson away. So Thomas Hickey has been one of those prospects that’s been on the cusp of making the big team but there has always been one or two better defensemen just ahead of him. He doesn’t have enough flash to make the Kings clear a spot for him but it’s been more important to play him regularly in the AHL than to be a healthy scratch. Is the kid a bust? For a 4th Overall pick in a Draft that the Kings could have selected Logan Couture, Karl Alzner, David Perron or even Sam Gagner instead… yeah, he’s a HUGE bust. But a lot of people still think he could be a decent NHL defenseman.

There was no way that Thomas Hickey was going to crack the LA Kings defense lineup over the next 3 seasons. Now… for an NY Islanders team that is relying on Mark Streit, Travis Hamonic and Andrew MacDonald… he might be a nice waiver pickup for them.

Im throwing in the towel based on the roster I see. This team had no shot of attracting any UFA's over last summer due to the arena nonsense and the fact that the team sucked last year. There are no good UFA's out there to sign. All there are is waiver wire crap. They can't compete in the Atlantic Division with this roster. I don't know who the Isles can obtain in a trade at this point that would take this roster from 5th in the division to competing for a playoff spot.

Truth be told, everyone talks about the "rebuild" and it "taking 5 years". Look at this team five years ago. Do you honestly think the Isles are a better team now than they were five years ago? I don't. I think the farm system is in much better shape, but the NHL team hasn't improved much, if at all, over the past five years.

I understand what you're saying, but then let me ask you this. How many years does Garth get before this team starts competing for a cup? I would think that should be something ownership should have put into their business model. Clearly the leafs thought 4 years of no playoffs was enough to excuse Burke of his duties. So if this season is over, and they cannot improve much next season.......now you're talkin about starting in brooklyn in year 7 of a rebuild. Does it really take 7 years to compete for a playoff birth?

they still had valid contracts, regardless of being locked out. As far as the players themselves, they decided to play overseas to both stay in shape and earn extra income to cover what they were missing by being locked out. Now they're injured and unable to play so the Isles have suspended both for injuries that were not suffered as Islanders. Makes sense to me. Not overly popular, but well within their rights.

If someone screwed himself up using a snowblower (lol sakic) in the offseason, would be be entitled to the team paying his salary while recovering? The team could do it if they wanted to, but they wouldn't be obligated to.
